Dry-camp Detective work

Overnight at certain Walmarts is Verboten in certain cities.
Rules is rules... BUT, some rules are forged in Cast iron and strictly adhered to, and then some rules... not so much.
Sometimes we make rules and laws, then the unforeseen consequences pop up. Maybe it is working for them, maybe they catch some flack for it.
I guess the old 'I'd rather beg forgiveness than ask for permission' Pops up in life, I like that saying and occasionally use it.
We are headed to Flagstaff, Walmart seems like a good idea, but the city has deemed that us RV types must use the RV parks they have in town.
I called the Walmart West side, a lady said the lot is posted and you are welcome to stay, but the Police may object.
So, then I called the Police department. The dispatch officer said the East Walmart by the Cracker Barrel is not allowed, but they wouldn't bother us if we stayed at the west Walmart. (It is also posted: No Overnight.)
So, we will try it and see if we need any bail money.
Anyone have any personal experience there?

When Flagstaff passed their RV parking ban they made the statement that they really didn't care if rv's didn't stay there so since then I have made it a point to never spend as much as a penny there

The few times we have been thru Flagstaff I thought it was rather RV unfriendly. Guess that is why.

When I called the Police department, the lady there was very friendly, she said I could overnight at the West Wally-world, but not the one by the Cracker Barrel. She could have said there is no parking overnight anywhere by city ordinance...which is the law.
I have been reading many articles about it on the Internet, the 'back-story' of the deal is that they had a ton of people coming there and staying in their cars, panhandling and being a nuisance. This is the reason of the ordinance according to these folks, I imagine it had little to do with RV's. It would be interesting to read the ordinance.
Common sense (and business sense) would dictate it is bad to run off the RV community.

Just a thought, is it legal to stay at Cracker Barrel?

Deming, NM has the same thing going on. Sign on the lot says "No Overnight Parking" and behind that is a collection of Tractor Trailers and RV's taking up four parking lanes clear to the back of a very large lot. You have to be there early to enjoy your piece of no overnight parking.

Jim,

We went to Dayton, OH on the way to the ralley last year to visit some cousins. We got permission to stay cousins church parking lot for our over night. There was some kind of ordnance there too I believe.

The lady at the Police department said the lot was too small at the Cracker Barell. I read something about an RV person parked near there by a couple of big rigs. (Overnight)

Some towns have ordinances because they are a tourist location and don't want people using the lots as campgrounds. Or they are because there are a bunch of stuffed shirts that live there and do not think RV's are classey enough to be seen in their town, these ones the police will definitly inforce. Some Walmarts like the one in West Memphis have signs up to avoid things like the thousands of big rig trucks in that area because its a major interstate intersection. They had signs up and also the overhead barriers but they told me they don't mind RV's staying overnite but they have to keep the trucks out or they would be swamped with them. Guess the best thing is to call ahead. I use Allstays and it lists all Walmarts, Cracker Barrels, K-Marts and others that allow overniting and it will say if they do or not and have phone numbers to call and check either way. It does pay to call even if there are signs up.
