Water Heater Flush Wand
Since a garden hose is too big, I've always wanted to get something small enough to stick in the anode hole in the bottom of the hot water heater to be able to flush out the accumulated sediment in the bottom. I went to Lowes and got a 1/2" female swivel garden hose end, a 1/4" to 1/2" bushing, and aquired a #4 JIC ftg. I cut off a 2' piece of 1/4" copper tube, flaired one end, smashed the other end in a vise and drilled 3 small holes near that end. When you hook up the garden hose to this and just barely open the faucet, it works really well in forcing any sediment out the anode hole as you work the wand back and forth.

Dieselguy I have the same one but when I made mine I bent a 90 at the end and cut right in the middle of the 90. never thought about krimping the end. but it does work good.

That should work good. I use a wand and the shop vac, particulary when I winterize. It gets the w/h dry as well as the sediment out.

dieselguy, I have a wand similar to yours that some old guy was selling for 7 or 8 dollars about 15 years ago in an RV park were in and it is still going strong.
Recently I saw the same device at Camping World but it was plastic. I like your idea.

CW has them...pretty cheap as I recall; however, the diameter of the nozzle does not leave a lot of room for was to "flush" out. Your solution looks like it might be much better...thanks for posting.

Dieselguy, I use the wand from my presure washer, without the pressure washer on(only tap pressure) and at the same time hold the shop vac at the annode rod hole. When I am done flushing, the shop vac sucks out the remaining water and any debis. Like I said it works great.

Thing about the plastic one is that when you really pressure it up, it tries to fold over backwards...need to build me a copper one.
