Knox Hill CG, Alabama

Well, we were looking for a place about 225-250 miles out of or last unmentionable stop and I saw Knox Hill CG on a search for campgrounds in Alabama. I could not find a web site (they don't have one) but I did find some reviews that look appealing for a one or two night stop.

I gave them a call and didn't even need reservations, but they took may name in case of a "storm" influx of campers (Dolly)

All sites are pull through 50/30 amp, free laundry, swimming pool, hot tub (haven't check it out yet), welcome center.

I'm at the top of the hill in Site #7 with open sky for satellite. They have free cable, but we prefer the satellite (DW has to have Food Network and HGTV - I just have to have a computer)

There are not attractions, so to speak. There is a casino about 6 miles away that the staff here says has good food. We'll see tomorrow. Maybe I should just drive by and throw a "C" note out the window and keep going. That's what I'l. most likely loose if I go inside, plus lunch money.

Approximately 3 miles the other direction (North on 43) there is Robertson BBQ. It started to storm, so DW says, "Why don't YOU go pick us up some BBQ?" I braved the weather and got to the BBQ/Store place. bought a dozen eggs, and a loaf of bread plus 2 pulled pork meals with tator salad and cole slaw along with Ice Tea. The bill for all came to $11.86. Hey, I oculd stay here just for the price of food!!!!

So I'm on my way back and two cars are stopped in the roadway. As I pull up behind the last one it is then I notice there is a big tree across the highway, and it's raining hard. No problem for a GPS'er. Turn the 1 ton around on the narrow road and headed in another direction. TomTom didn't like it and kept telling me to turn around. So I did, and I flagged down the next car coming my way and asked if I-65 was in the direction he was going. He stated that it was, but you had to make a few turns and to follow him. Turned around, followed him, and oops, another tree across the road. Some local boys came from the other direction, went on the grassy shoulder, stopped, hooked up a chain and pulled the tree off of the road. (Love them local's) We proceeded on, only to find "Road Closed" and yup, it was close because of a bridge and three were huge piles of dirt to block the road. Turned around, went back the way I came, some other locals had cleared the 1st tree, and I made it back to the Hanna with cold pulled pork. It sure was good! Storm still brewing.

99 degrees at 3 p.m. setting up, and 74 right now.

It's so nice to be back down South!!!!

Wayne- Where in Alabama is this place? The DW is from Alabama and we head down there at least twice a year! If you're around Cullman, AL check out Johnny's BBQ- You have never had a barbeque baked potato like they have there. The potato alone will fill a dinner plate and it is split and piled high with whatever BBQ you like(chicken, beef or pork) and you can founder on this one it's so good! If you are around it stop in-- it's well worth the money! We bring back some of the sauce each and every time we are in the area!
After checking the atlas you're way past Cullman but next time you go down I-65 check out Johnny's in Cullman, AL. Have a safe trip home!
