Xps ribs

Thinking of getting these. Rather not get the G614s. Any opinion would be welcome. Thanks, john

I dont have many miles on mine, but they look pretty dang heavy duty. I dont think you will find a more rugged tire for a 16 inch rim.

Some will say it doesnt matter, but the the tire itself weighs 55 pounds, while a Good Year Marathon is 35 and a BFG commercial weighs 45. To me, a heavier tires seems like it would be more heavy duty.

I did have the BFG commercials for about 2k miles and didnt have any type of problem either... that was before they were recalled (voluntary) and replaced with XPS Ribs.

I previously had them on a 38' motorhome and got good service from them. As indicated from the earlier post, those things are HEAVY. When it comes time take them off to inspect hubs/bearings, they are not easy to manhandle!!!! Would not be easy to get up and take down from the spare tire carrier........but again, they really were a reliable tire on the motorhome.

That extra weight translates into extra reserve capacity. Those should be great tires. When I'm done with my G614's the ribs will definitely be getting a look. If you want an article on reserve capacity, just email me at dqdick10432@yahoo.com and I'll send it to you.

Have them on my trailer now because of the recall, but I do know a guy that has them on an SOB that is the same weight as mine and has never had a problem with them and he puts lots of miles on.

Those seemed to be the tire of choice for 5th wheels for many years on RV.net. I don't know about recently as I don't go on there much since I found the MOC.

The Michelin XPS Rib is at the top of my list of recommendations, followed very closely by the Bridgestone Duravis R250. Both are all steel construction, including the sidewalls, and very heavy duty.

Reserve capacity is the key. Although these tires are only rated at 3042 pounds at 80 psi, the reserve capacity built into them is more than adequate to carry the weight of your rig. ST rated tires have NO reserve capacity built in, they are limited to 65 mph ( usually fast enough for most folks ), and the majority are junk.
