Satelitte TV

I looked for a previous topic, but didn't find one. If there is one let me know. If not, I am looking for advice on a portable cable satellite system for my Montana. I don't think I am ready to permanently mount on the roof and don't think I need the automatic tracking features. Just a basic carry out unit and feedback on your experience with providers (Dish, Direct TV, etc). Also do you buy or pay monthly for the tuning box/DVR (not sure what you really call it) Any ideas?

Edited to move the posting to a more appropriate category = CRAFT-Guy

A lot of different set up out there mine is Dish Network and I used to have the dish that you move around and ask if I hit it yet to the wife, she got real tired of that and bought me the wingard tote around dish that looks for the satelites as for price I have four receivers two are in the trailer and two at home. The only problem I see with Dish Network is that Direct still uses one LMB and gets HDTV dish has to use 3 LMB's on there antenna to get HDTV satelites 110,119,and 129 for HDTV. I like Directs set up very simple to set up to, not as criticle as Dish Net. good luck.on your choise.

I use Direct TV. I have it at home so just took one of the receivers out of the house and put in the RV. Ordered a portable dish package off line which included the dish, tripod, 50 feet of coax, a compass, and a satelite finder, all for just over $100.00. Fairly easy to set up, but you can usally find someone around the parks who will point it for you. Some will charge you some will not.

Ditto what Wayne said. And with Direct TV, set up is easy. Receiver will walk you through the set up, and you simply plug in the local zip code and bingo, you have the azimuth and elevation. Rough in the dish setting and then there is a signal meter as part of the setup process with an audible tone which makes it easy to align; as you slowly adjust the dish, the meter will beep, faster it beeps, better the signal. Once you get the hang of it, easy. Once I have my dish set up and have aligned the azimuth and elevation based on zip code input, takes me five minutes (Non-HD) to get a good signal. I listen to the Beep through the window while the wife reads off the meter readings. Once I hit 90 or so, tighten up and relax. In answer to your other question, with Direct TV, you sign a contract and are billed monthly based on what channel options you choose.

We have just recently gotten the Dish Tailgater and really like it. It automatically finds the satalite.

When we are going to be in one place for a few days I think I will just put it on the roof.]

One thing I like about it is that you don't need a power cable it is all in the one cable.
