travel with vents open ?
I was wondering, especially with this heat...how many travel with one or more of their roof vents open, and how much?

IF they are covered with those MaxAire covers, maybe.
However, we try to NOT go there, as that opening can sure scoop in some dust and dirt (ask me how I know?? )
And, that said, we have done it, due to leaky brains that have overlooked em when they are open.

We travel with the bathroom vent open but we have a Maxxair cover on it so it doesn't get bothered by the wind.

We also travel with the bathroom vent open, it has a maxxair cover, never had any problem or dust for that matter. Dust would have to travel into the wind at 70+ mph to get in. It does help on the heat to some degree, but not a great deal.

We used to travel with our vent open, have maxi covers. But not any more. The maxi coversover the vents cause a suction/venturi effect, this pulls air in from any cracks or openings. Around the floors it pulled enough road grim and soot(diesel) to color the carpets black few places.
We now travel with all closed.

We travel with our vents open but they are covered with MaxAir vent covers. We have never had an issue with dust. BUT, we have never traveled out west yet or in very dusty areas. We did leave a rear window slightly open in out first travel trailer and it sucked in all kinds of road dirts. Vents open....yes, windows open....NO!

We found that traveling with the vents open sucked in sewer smell.

We've never had an issue with dirt, dust, exhaust or sewer smells. Maybe the vent is positioned in the right place. Try it and see how it works for you.

We have been traveling with the vents (with Maxx covers) open because we leave the 2 kitties in the Casa. Never thought about pulling in dust, dirt and exhaust fumes. Thanks for the heads up. We will watch for that now.

The reason I ask this question is I've run with the same type vents open on my work trailer and never had an issue. I was going to try it with today's run to NY but now it's raining...maybe on the return trip.
Thanks for all the replies.

We have the Maxi-covers on and alway leave the bathroom vent slightly open. We also leave it open when the rig is just parked and not being used for air circulation.

We used to leave a vent open but we soon found that dust from the air got sucked in just like others have mentioned. Yes, we HAD the MaxxAir covers.

I normally travel with the bedroom vent up which is the only one covered with the maxi air.
I had posted on another thread about finding the sink and shower drain traps empty several times. Maybe this was partly to blame??
