PullRite Superglide Question

Pat & I are planning our first long trip with our Montana. We are heading to Mission, TX for the worst of the winter. We have never ventured beyond the six state area.

I love my Superglide and never felt the need to purchase the adapter.

Do those of you with a Superglide have a conversion adapter in case of a breakdown on the road?

My capture plate is welded on due to thru bolts shearing, so removing it isn’t an easy option. I know that a new style capture plate is available and it has set screws on the sides. This new style plate could also work.

Glenn, hopefully you will share your experience as you have traveled lots of miles with the same set up.

I have one, but thankfully have never had to use it. As some say, it's paid for and will be there if I ever need it.

PatnRich, I have my Superglide over 6 years and never purchased the adapter nor did I ever have a need for it.

Now I must admit that when I purchased my 07 Monty I also got the MORryde pin box with the MORryde designed Superglide capture plate. It only requires the removing of 4 bolts to remove the capture plate.

Do you need the adapter?? Not so long as you have a roadside assistance plan such as Good Sam's RV Emergency Road Service. They will dispatch the right equipment to move your TV and 5er.

Fortunately, my capture plate is bolted on and it wouldn't take much effort to get it off. That being said, I would hope that most towing companies would be equiped to pull a 5'er using the Superglide hitch since there are so many of us out there. They should be equiped with the adaptor. I know, as luck would have it I would get the towing company that has never heard of a Superglide.

I have the newer capture plate. For the 3400's Lippert 1116 pinbox, there is just one setscrew. That is in the front of the capture plate. Because it's a $100+ capture plate and because it could quickly and easily "walk away" I use a pinlock to make it more difficult.

When we drop the rig at our dealer's I just remove the capture plate so he can move the Montana with his own truck. It takes me about 20 to 30 seconds to remove it. No adapter needed.

Here you can see the setscrew, the locknut, and the white block the setscrew fits into.

On edit... Pullrite told me the capture plate does not have to be tight. It just have to be tight enough to not fall off. I snug ours up pretty good, though.

Thanks all for your replies.

Since my capture plate is welded on, I will order the adapter, hopefully, I won't ever need it.

There are lots of things to consider before our first long trip.

Just a note, like Steve Reigle, I have the Universal Capture plate. Last year while in Anchorage Alaska, my truck broke down and spend 4 days in the shop. During that time, I had to move my 5'er to another park. My buddy traveling with me had a standard 5'er hitch. Easy removal of the capture plate allowed him to move me.
