2005 F350 PSD 6.0

OK by now you should good idea I no it has been posted before but what kind of mileage are you guys getting out of your 2005 6.0 PSD units 4X4. I just traded for one provided that they can go to the other dealer and get the one I wanted. I opt for long bed this time, F350 6.0 PSD King Ranch.
I lost all faith in my existing trucks transmission even though it's under warranty we cannot trust it to get to and from without worries so i decided to trade the truck.
Looking for fuel mileage comparisons.

On our last extended trip of 7,850 miles we had an overall average of ll.32 MPG. This includes traveling over varying road grades of mountains and flat lands and mostly towing miles. Hubby is very pleased with the performance of his 2004 F350.

Congratulations, Broome! Sounds like a beauty! I think you're really going to like that truck. The new frontend on the 4x4 is so much nicer and turns a whole lot shorter. And tire wear has been fantastic. We have over 24k miles on ours now and the tires were rotated at 8k and 22k (went a little long on that one). The tires are just about perfectly flat across the tread.

Anyhow, mileage. Solo running 70-75 on rolling hills terrain we get 18 to 19 for a trip. That includes driving through town, starts, stops, passing others, being passed, etc. Pure town driving solo we get 16.5 give or take half a mpg. 16 to 17 in other words.

Towing, we're running about 11.5 to 12.5 on relatively flat land, running about 62 mph. A lot of hills and mountains will drop that a little.

The mileage has improved as the truck gained miles. The above are what we're getting now. The following were from an experiment I did setting the cruise on a speed and leaving it for 10 to 20 miles. We had a few speedups to pass someone but not many. No stops and starts. We were northbound on I-95 south of Savannah, GA. The truck had around 8k miles on it so these numbers would probably be better now as are the other numbers. This was solo, two adults onboard. I don't remember how much fuel. The truck is an F250 crew cab shortbed FX4 4x4 Lariat 6.0 PSD TorqShift.

60mph - 21.9
65mph - 21.0
70mph - 19.7
75mph - 18.9

I would expect these to be a bit better now the truck has more miles on it.

Steve, I notice yesterday after inspecting my new truck that on the F350 it sits 3 inches higher than my old F250 in the rear only not the whole truck. I know it's because of the heavy springs but did you have to move you hitch on truck much or did you move the king pin down itself on trailer. Also I presume you tow in tow haul mode all the time. Dealer still has truck took my truck to him last night they are doing the switch over today on spray in liner and hitch. Truck only has 300 miles on it had to go lick it up from another dealer so I have to pout some more miles on before Saturday we are heading to Pigeon forge, TN on Saturday or Friday night.

Welcome to the King Ranch owners ranks Broome, You will love the new wheels. I have had a lot of compliments, and still get a lot of stairs and peeks in the windows when parked. I really didn't have to change much on my hitch when I switched from a 250 to a 350 last year. I had a Sportsmen 5er then and just had to raise the trailer to the highest notches in the shakles. The box is the same depth and the hitch and trailer pin should be the same. Otherwise you will change the amount of clearance you had between the box and rails. If you feel the rake is too much afte hooking to the F350, then you may need to flip the axles on the trailer, or raise it up some other way. I tow in the tow/haul mode when in hilly terrain. Otherwise I don't use it much on flat ground. It is very nice holding back the triailer when decending steep hills.

Broome, yes, I tow in tow/haul all the time. I figure it has to be easier on the transmission and maybe the engine although I have nothing to verify that other than seat of the pants.

I went the opposite way, from F350 to F250 which is lower. I just adjusted the hitch in the bed upwards in my case, downwards in yours. If that's not enough you can also adjust the pinbox. As Ron said, make sure you have enough clearance over the bedrails. We have 8 1/2 inches on this one and had about the same on the F350. We didn't need to do anything with the axles. The Montanas sit pretty high as it is but I suppose someone might need to do that.

Those King Ranch's are beautiful. I like my Lariat a lot but if it were a King Ranch I'd just smile that much more. Nice rig, both of you.

Broome, now you need a new picture. Color of the new truck?

Thanks for the info just got everything in the truck this evening, ready to leave out tomorrow for TN. This new truck sits up about 3 inces taller and when going into my garage I have about 2 inches clearance, was scary first time going in to make sure no mishaps. But what do I do when I open the door after getting into garage open it too much into my four wheel and dig driver door. Can you believe that.

Hey at least the first scratch is over with and you wont have to worry about who will put the first one in it. Mine was last weekend when I was unhooking from the trailer. I forgot to put the tailgate down and pulled forward. OOPS! Hopefully yours isn't that bad and only you will notice it. Need to update some new pic's. We are wanting to see what color you choose. And like I said above my truck in my signature has no weight on it at all as I was ready to unhook when I snapped this photo. I feel it rides pretty level with about 7" of clearance between the rails and the trailer when ready for the road.

Broome, that leather in the King Ranch must be nice! I had long dreamed of one of the olive colored King Ranches, but the 2005 models went to a green that is so dark that it almost looks black, and I just did not like that. Well, I did not want to pay the difference between it and the Lariat either! Marsha had also fallen in love with the Wedgewood Blue, and the more I looked at it, the more I liked it as well, especially when compared to the new green on the King Ranch. Yes, my colors of choice are either green or blue!

My F-250 is averaging a little less than Steve’s, but that might be due to it only having 5k on it. I have not been displeased as yet, and if the mileage improves, well, my smile will be that much bigger.

On the tow/haul, when I stopped by a dealer at Cleveland, Georgia, the person at the service desk asked if I was using tow/haul, and I said yes. She said that was what I was supposed to do. I tell you, the transmission when in tow/haul makes braking SO much easier, especially when approaching a stop light that changes late on you!

Broome, just realized I didn't answer your height question. Our '03 F350 sat higher in the rear like yours does. When hitched it came down to just about perfectly level. I had the hitch in the top notch to make sure I had enough bedrail clearance but did not have to change the Montana's pinbox on that one. On the prior Montana I adjusted the pinbox instead of the hitch but moving the hitch is easier.

JD, your mileage will come up. We had around 8k on ours when we got those readings. Saturday I traveled 120 miles to my h.s. reunion and 120 back. Going I tried setting the cruise on 70 and left it there for about 5 miles before some turkey forced me to slow down before I could pass (one of those in the left lane no matter what the traffic pattern kind of people, ya know?). I was getting over 23 mpg on the flat, then it dropped into the mid 21's when I got into some rolling hills. On the trip back I just measured the mileage for the entire 120 miles including about 5 miles of real city driving, 25 miles of city freeway, and 90 miles of non-city interstate, two stops at toll booths and one for a nature call. Mileage for the trip was 18.9. The cruise was set on 72 for the insterstate portion of the trip. The truck has just short of 25k on it now.

That is one mighty fine ride there Broome. If you don't mind what kind of mats are those? I am looking to get some new ones myself and like the way those cover the center section as well.

They are Husky liners you can get at any after market truck shop or order them on line. They are from my old truck and worked out great just had to trim for the center console since I had bench 40/60 split in old truck.

I get about 8-9 mpg while towing, and 11-13 without the fiver. That's over a mix of terrain.

I have a lead foot, and never saw the mileage figures that car companies plastered on teh windows of any vehicles I ever bought.

I'm just over 20,000 miles, now, and figure I'm about broken in.

The price of diesel is killing our budget. But the truck pulls when I need it, where I need it.

I don't like to hold anyone up behind me. And I like to stay on cruise control, so when I come upon someone who varies in speeds, I tend to pass them. That may eat some of the mileage, since it may take 75-80 mph to get past them.

You can also get those mats with carpeting on them. I have them in my Lariat, after trimming the center cover for the console as well.

While I don't spill much on them, it's amazing how fast the old Alaskan snow could melt and puddle up. Now, when I remove those, the original carpeting will remain as it was when I bought the truck.
