Just thinking out loud, with this bladder style back flow valve, you want to be sure the tank is not over filling. It would not take much to over fill the gray tank and cause the tank to crack. I have forgotten to open the gray valve for the bathroom tub and sink and the water has backed up into the tub. Not the best thing to have happen but there was the release of pressure on the tank.

Camping World of South Alabama finally got my drain problem fixed. The back flow protector was turned inside out, probably from too much water pressure when the holdings tanks were pressure tested by Camping World of Lowell, Arkansas.

Leonard, too bad you can't get it done free because they caused the problem, but I am glad you got it fixed. What an ordeal.

Wow, these bladders are news to me, too! When did they start using these? I've not seen anything like that in our basement storage area lines.

So, if the tank gets over full, instead of backing up into the shower or kitchen sink, as appropriate, it builds pressure in the tank until the tank bursts, right? Wonderful. Whose idea was that and does he still work for Keystone? Must be the same guy who suggested the washer drain into the black tank to help keep it clean. At least I'd bet that was the thinking.

OK, are you telling me if I run water into the bathroom sink with the drain closed, the water will not back up into the shower and might turn the bladder inside out and the water will instead back up into the sink?

If the bladder turns inside out, now the shower will not drain. I am thinking a retro fit P trap is the answer.

If you are dry camping and fill the tank, this sounds like a problem, or am I mis-understanding the bladder valve.

As for the washer, I am looking at a 3150 with the washer in the center of the front closet. Looks like plenty of room for a P trap there. There is a note it does not drain thru any tank.

Curious as to when they started installing these? I can assure you our 3750FL does not have one. I have experienced the results of not having one first-hand and actually prefer it that way. When you have three women taking a shower before the man, and the grey tank is not emptied, it is a good warning sign that the tank needs emptied when all of a sudden you are standing in ankle deep water in the shower. If the process is reversed in the morning, there is still an audible warning along the likes of "dear, the tank needs emptied, I am swimming in the shower!" I am thinking like BW2, sounds like an invitation for a cracked tank.

The one my picture is of is in the basement and visible without removing anything except cargo you may have in the basement. I don’t know where the one for the washer / dryer is located because we only have the hookup not washer and we don’t get odor in the coach so I haven’t had a need to find it.

The only time the bladder will turn wrong side out is when the gray tank vent is plugged. Then the pressure change when you fill the gray tank will turn the bladder inside out.

Then explanation given to jib27537 of it happening when the gray tank was pressure check sounds correct.

In my case it was a gray tank vent that was not ever installed in the tank at the factory. Then when after bailing the water out of the shower tub I could see the bladder thru the shower drain. Because it is white I thought it was a paper towel! Being industrious I got a pair on needle nose pliers out and “unstopped” the drain. The pressure in the tank sprayed water in my eyes.

This cost me $37.95 for the part and Keystone wouldn’t pay warranty for repair the vent or the drain because I damage the unit by “unstopping” the shower drain. This happened the third time we used the trailer 3 weeks after picking it up from the dealer.

The reason for the three weeks was the first week the water system was unusable because pipes were not fastened. The second weekend the shower stall hadn’t been caulked so we couldn’t use the shower only the sink. The third weekend was when the shower tub filled with water. I also think the atmospheric pressure had change as well because we had only use the sink in the toilet room and I don’t think there was that much water in the gray tank and my wife puts the sink and shower stopper in the drains for transit.

So began the story of the trailer from Hell!

I know this is an old post but….

I was experiencing slow drain from the shower. It was draining so slow that you would have quite a bit of water standing when you finished your shower.

I removed the “Bladder” housing. This was accomplished without the use of tools.

The drain and bladder were full of gunk. I washed it all out and the drain now works. I filled the shower tub with a fair amount of water then pulled the drain plug and it drained very well. This also checked the drain for leaks.

Glad I discovered this topic. Recently I opened area behind our "Convenience Center" and saw this "bladder thing" attached at shower outlet. Now I know what it is. Our unit is 2009 2980RL so I am thinking lots of bladders and potential problems are out there.

Can this thing be removed and replaced with pipe? Besides odor what good is it? Just do like what I am reading with problems. Looks as if I could encounter a problem at the the most inconvenient time.
