Furniture for the Monty

Can anyone give us some insight to the pitfalls we might run into trying to exchange some of our house furniture for the furniture that comes with a Monty?

I have done this and I am still in the process of doing it. Eventually there will not be any RV furntiture in Miss Montana.

I think the main considerations are:

Can you fit it through the door?

Can you easily bring in the slides?

Can you secure, (if needed) when going down the road?

Does it's placement lend itself to good weight distrubtion when towing?

I have replaced the oak dinnet with an antique oak ladies game table and moved it to the back window. The proper chairs for this table is still a work in progress. I plan to build a custom office area where the original table was and I have my eye on a Studio Sofa at World Market.to replace the jackknife sofa.

So I really don't see any "pitfalls" just certain considerations.

We also moved our dining table to the back window and removed two of the chairs. We carry two folding chairs under the bed for when we have guests. We replaced our recliners with one glider and footstool, and, best of all, replaced the sleeper sofa with a reclining loveseat. Living in the rig is soooo much more comfortable now and we have more room to pack up and get to the table. Our loveseat is overstuffed but the back comes off so it was easy to put in the rig. We love it!

As this stuff in our brand new 3400 wears out and I don't think it will take all that long, We will replaces it with higher quality store bought furniture. Weight and size are always a consideration but you can do it. We did not order the coffee table with our 3400 and although it took a bit of looking around we purchased a much better one.

Like Rich we are not going to replace anything until something wears out. Our unit is 2 years old but not used all of the 2 years. We lived in it for 9 months in the beginning. Our recliners are a bit dirty on the arms but shampoo off with no residue or fading. Unlike others we like our furniture in our Monty and do not consider it cheap or ugly. That's just our opinion. Our stick house furniture is too large to fit in the Monty. We think the recliners in the Monty are very comfortable. We still have all five chairs because we utilize the storage in them. The only thing we plan on doing when we go full time is to take our comforter that is on our stick house bed with us. I'll replace the curtains in the bedroom from material in the drape (matches the comforter) we have in the stick house. I haven't yet decided what will replace the headboard. This is just our opinion and does not in any way condemn those that have replaced furniture.
Happy trails...........................

Thanks for the input everyone. We are going to the dealer this weekend along with our tape measure and furniture sizes. As we empty the stick house and ready for the road, using some of the furniture we have will eliminate trying to find a home for the duplicates by buying a Monty without some of the furniture. I really like the idea of the table by the rear window and the reclining loveseat which we already have.

Thanks again, Dave & Trish

I am also going to do some replacing when the new stuff wears out. We are living in ours full time now and have gotten rid of all the furnature from our stick house. We plan on replacing the sofe sleeper with a reclining loveseat first. I am also going to get rid of the dining table and get a card table. We eat outside or in our recliners most of the time. I want to put a chest freezer in its place. The recliners are comfortable now that we have them broke in. We put a cover over them to protect them and makes clean up easy.

The only original furniture in ours is one of the dining chairs that we use at the desk. We have residential dining chairs, lazyboy, and sofabed. As others said, getting them through the door is the key. Some models might be more difficult than others to do that. We had to remove the wood legs (they screw into place) on the sofabed and lift it over the kitchen counter but otherwise no problem. It's a six foot sofabed, 35" deep, 31" tall at the back.

As I recall, Sue's and Ed's OEM furniture was comfortable. Ours wasn't.

See another Montana or Mountaineer on the road? Flash lights twice, it might be one of us!

With most of the Montanas being somewhat limited in cargo capacity, that would be a concern when replacing any furniture.

We are looking to replace ours as it wears out. I think the dinning room table will be the first to be replaced.

Although I complain, We are sort of satisfied with the QEM furniture .Our sofa bed cushions are hard as a rock but it did pass the nap test (Helen says I could sleep on nails) We have but one recliner..I will not say it is ugly perhaps homely is a better description but it also passed the nap test.I see nothing wrong with the kitchen table or chairs..I sort of like them...but then of course I have no taste at all.Helen's indicator of how bad something looks is by how much I like it. Hope Keystone does not read this as it will not do my reputation well..but we like most everything about our brand new 3400 Montana.

We just replaced the sofa bed with a Simmons Loveseat sofa bed (Twin size). We have moved the loveseat to the rear of the coach. Gives us lots of room on each side now. We replaced the recliners with Palliser Leather swivel chairs with ottomans. Makes everyone more comfortable now.

Army Guy, here's a link to a picture of our table in the rear of the Montana. You can easily see the advantange of having more room to move your chairs back. We will put our other two chairs in storage until we're ready to buy a new rig.

While we are on the subject of furniture, has anyone purchased an RV specific coffee table? I saw one at an open road / pilgrim RV dealer awhile back that I fell in love with. They wouldn't just sell me the coffee table right then and there and since we were leaving for CA in 2 days I didn't have time to follow up. Anyway, it raises up to your selected height and is a drop leaf table (2 leaves on either side of the middle section, which is no more than 6 inches wide with the leaves down). The interesting part is the entire top swivels completely,360 degrees. The dealer in Bozeman said people were always asking about it and some wanted to "borrow" it for a pattern! I need a table like this that I can use also as a desk for schoolwork. The one already in the Monty must have been designed for midgets cause it is way to small for me and I am only 5'4''.
Any good ideas would be entertained...
Went to the Pilgrim dealer here in CA, they didn't have one on the lot in their units and have been over 3 weeks getting back to me. We think it is called the "Versatile Coffee Table".
Thanks All!

Thanks, Dave and Steve. It really works well for us, too. Much easier access to everything. Cozy too when our family of three sits on the loveseat together. Greta takes up most of the room!

Thanks, Campbud. It's especially nice when the view is of a lake or the beach.

Steve and Tara, Camping World sells the coffee table that lifts up but it doesn't swivel. It's the one furniture item that we purchased that allows us to get along with just two chairs around our table. When our granddaughters come to visit, they sit up to the coffee table to eat and it works very well.
