Do Tripods Help?

X-Chocks made a big difference in the movement of the Monty but I'm just curious if a front tripod would also help reduce the noticeable movement went someone walks around. Thoughts or other suggestions?

I had one for awhile but gave it away. Don't believe they help. Just more stuff to haul around.

I use one all the time. I believe that they make a world of difference when trying to stabilize the Monty. IMHO it almost eliminates the movement. I also believe that they are less effective or may be even unnecessary if you have 6 point leveling.

Don't use one with the 6 point leveling system installed.

Since you have a 2004 model I assume you, like me, do not have auto leveling.

I used a tripod the first year we had the Monte. Helped a little with the shaking when someone was walking around. But when the washer/dryer went into spin cycle it would shake the whole trailer. Installed JT Strongarm struts the next year. Significantly more stable and much less shaking than with the tripod. I set the tripod in front of the trailer at an RV park with a $40 sign on it and it was bought within a couple hours.

I believe you will have more luck with a set of JB Stabilizers. We have used both. Now wth 6 point level up, we don't use anything else.

Used one on my previous sob. It just had the landing gear and 2 rear stab jacks. It did help. Mine is aluminum, so it's pretty light. My Montana has the 6 point leveling system and was told by my dealers service manager that a tripod makes no difference with that system. Haven't needed or used it in over a year. Now it's sitting in my garage collecting dust.

Check out the SteadyFast stabilizer systems. It's the same price as the JT Strongarms, but much better designed and easier to use. I've had the Staedyfast on our last three rigs. I wouldn't want to have a trailer without it.

Here's a link: http://www.steadyfast.com/index.html

We didn't think is was worth the hassle. If you want to try one out, look on Craigs list or at the national rally. Someone will be selling one for little or nothing and you can give it a shot.

No, if you have the LCI leveling system with six legs. No, if you have the manual with front landing and rear stabilizers. Boot worth the trouble of carrying. Gave ours away years ago

We did not think it helped at all.The Rv is stable front to back any movement is side to side and they do not help with that. Sold mine.

We have the washer in the front of our Big Sky and, even with the 6 point Level-Up, I can tell a difference with the tripod during the spin cycle. We don't mess with it if we are just setting up for a short time, but use it if we are going to be set up for awhile.

I sent my previous tripod to the dump or scrap yard. To much weight and hassle for no reward in my opinion. As a retired engineer, the casual observation is that a single point support (top of tripod) is inherently unstable by design. Just my opinion.

I guess it depends on the source of the movement. When DW is napping (front bedroom), she requests that I sit my butt in the recliner and just don't walk around.

When she gets up, she just loves it when she hears my voice from the back of the Mounty shouting, "Hey! Will you please stop moving around up there?"

Very helpful comments, thank you everyone. I believe our next 5er will have the 6-point level up, but until then I think I will go with the steadyfast system. Thank you Dave, I had not ever heard of that before your recommendation.
