Mor Ryde suspension warranty?

I see a lot of you are putting the wet-bolt kit for your Mor Ryde suspension. How long after buying your trailer did you have to replace your bushings? Within the first year or several years later?

It appears this is a bad design and should be a warranty issue. Those of you who have extended warranties, was it covered or did you have to eat the expense of replacement? Some of you had failure within 15,000 miles or less. There appears to be a plastic liner that wears out prematurely. My 2001 I traded in was definately better quality, although I like the features on my new one.

Jeff-- I had the wet-bolt system put on my 2004 2980RL while at the Fall Rally last September. When they pulled the unit apart, there was one plastic bushing completely worn through and the other three were nearly there also. With the new brass bushing in and the ability to grease these now they should last a whole lot longer. Of course, my Monte does not have the miles on it that the fulltimers or even longtimers put on theirs but hopefully I will never have to replace them again! Since ours is the age it is, I ate the expense of the replacement.

Installed the Wet Bolt Kit last fall when the Monty had about 2500 to 3000 miles on the unit inclusive of the trip from the factory. All of the plastic bushings had some wear and a couple were running metal to metal. No way to lube and plastic bushings were very rusty, probably from the trip in the Sea - Can container that came from India. Have approximately 2500 miles on the wet bolt installation and have regreased at about 2000 miles with all parts and installation in good order. Gives me more comfort to know I won't be dropping a shackle bolt on the highway at 60 mile per hour!!

I bought the kit at the Fall Rally and replaced the bolts myself. I didn't think it was a warranty item as I had no trouble with the stock suspension. I did it for my peace of mind. The trailer had about 5000 miles on it when I did the replacement. I noticed wear on the plastic bushings and the very beginnings of wear on the metal parts.

Although it is the Mor Ryde suspension many of the other parts including the bolts and bushings belong to Dexter. When the seals on our brakes blew and ruined the brake shoes Dexter footed the bill. We had the wet bolt kit installed at @ 10K miles and the bushing were shot and the holes were no longer round. We have since replaced the entire suspension.

I believe most of us that have done the conversion by paying out of pocket to have them done. IF it was covered under warranty due to a failure would they not just replace the original parts with exactly the same inferior parts that the unit originated with? I don't think the warranty would cover this upgrade even though it just mind boggling to wonder how anyone with much knowledge would expect a nylon bushing to be of any value.

We all have to remember the nylon bushings are the industry standard. Our trailers and most others are designed for the occaisional user and for them these bushings work just fine.

I had mine done at the Mor Ryde factory because it is just a better set up. I had 15K on mine and they were not worn very much when they took them a part.

Perhaps one cannot argue this fact, but with safety concerns and the weights we are running these current standards need to be changed. When looking to the future and upgrading our currently Monty if the new unit doesn't have these upgrades we simply won't be pulling it down the road no matter what name appears on it. Those manufacturers that LEAD the industry with improvements and better safety standards may well win out in the end. JMHO.

We had the wet bolt kit installed at 5500 miles. There were no signs of problems but we wanted to get it done before there were any. Lubed them after the first 500 miles and again at 8600 miles. Dexter recommends they be lubed every 3000 miles.

Thank you for all the replies. What is the going price for the kit to install? Is it cheaper thru Mor Ryde or Dexter? I may have to buy jacks, jack stands and floor jack to do it myself if my extended warranty with wear and tear doesn't apply.

bigred715,
I paid $194.76 with tax for installation. I bought my kit from Moryde and I sent you a PM with the point of contact there and the price I paid for the kit.
Jack

In June of 2009 I bought a mint condition 2955RL 2007 Monty, that had been stored in
a shed. Owner was a young fellow who slept in it while he built a new home. Stove and
fridge never used, awning never out, gel coat like new, no miles on running gear at all.
I paid $600 to buy the necessary adapters to go from the Mor-Ryde blocks to the heavy
duty Dexter shackles and bushings. I have done the same thing on my last 3 trailers.
Goes back to about 6 years ago when a chap I know at home used to go to all the camp fires with a zip lock bag with the shreds of teflon bushings, shackles with elongated holes, and the original dry bolts that looked like they were half worn through after just 10,000 miles.
While I was in Desert Hot Springs last week I talked to a chap who had a Sierra by Forest River
and his dropped after a major failure of his suspension links after just 7,200 miles.
I am 71 years old, but I love having the satisfaction that every 2 or 3,000 miles I crawl
under our rig and grease all the fittings. New grease going in, means dirt, water and old
grease going out.
I was an engineer in the Navy, and and I simply cannot understand why Keystone
would not spend a few extra dollars, add is as an option or whatever, but to ensure
that all Keystone buyers will not end up over at the side of the road with broken suspension links.
My life and the life of my sweetie and most certainly worth more than $600.

Am I ever glad I wandered onto this topic. I haven't been on the forum in quite some time and I sure regret it. I have almost 30,000 miles on my 2007 (built in Sept 2006) Monte without checking u-bolt nut torgues, shackles, etc. Tomorrow I will be at the storage place doing just that. Thanks guys for the info.

I just had mine installed for peace of mind, and that's why I'm having the Marathons replaced with Maxxis before heading south in October. This is my 2nd fiver with Marathons and I've never had a problem yet, but have heard of too many problems with them and nothing but praise for the Maxxis.
Mine were installed at my dealer for around $500, I don't remember the exact price as I had some other work done at the same time.

I replace mine at about 10,000, and they were showing lots of wear. Conntacted Keystone in the hope they might take care of it. I was told it is normal wear, like breaks and tires.

Are there any pictures available on what, where and how to check these out? When I crawl under the rig, what am I looking for? Or do I have to take something apart? (DW would really LOVE me to try anything like that!)

Walt:

I am interested in this as well, trying to sort out noises, etc. in my suspension. Here is the link to the Morryde installation instructions which have pretty good pictures explaining the wet bolt installation. Doesn't say what to inspect on the old suspension, but helps to build understanding what this is all about. http://www.morryde.com/pdfs/New/LRE1...structions.pdf
Good Luck!

rosstok: While you are at Lake Siskiyou remind me to show you want needs to be checked and an example of what happens when you don't. I am a member of the "been there, done that" club.
