Extended Warrantys

I just bought a new 3000RK this past week. For those of you that have bought new rigs, did you buy extended coverage right away, or did you wait until your 1 year coverage ran out. I hate to have double coverage on the trailer during the first year if not needed. I found a policy for 7 years for $1282.

You better look in to that extended warranty real good.
We bought an extended warranty when we purchased our 2008 3400 but they never real explained it to us thoroughly,Our fault!
We just had 4 things that were fixed through warranty, they charged 100.00 deductible for each item. 400.00 was our total deductible. We still came out ahead because the total bill was 2500.00 which was more than we paid for the warranty.

The extended warranty usually takes effect after the manufacturers warranty runs out. For instance, our seven year extended warranty only provides 6 years of additional coverage. Therefore, it makes no difference when you purchase it. I am glad we have it, since it has paid for itself already after three years. Ours is $0 deductible. Some will tell you it is good to have, others will tell you it is not needed. We are glad we have it. That is around the same price we paid for ours.

When we bought our 2007 it was the first time we had really considered extra warranty. We were told that we had up to one year after the purchase to purchase the extra warranty, so we held on to our money another 11 months or so till we did the purchase. Now after 2.5 years of extended warranty it has already paid for itself with also zero deductible. In future we will not purchase an rv without an extended warranty. Perhaps if one was an occasional user it would be a different story.

If you wait until your factory warranty expires most charge you more. Therefore you want to purchase it before it expires. Like Bingo said you are only getting 6 years coverage but will pay for 7. My unit was about 4 months old when I purchased the warranty and about 4 months ago it paid for itself. It is going to pay back again because out Dometic refrigerator just quit.

Ours was through the dealer via Interstate National Dealer Services, Inc. It is called Interstate Star RV. Do not consider this as an endorsement, rather as providing information for consideration.

When we purchased our Montana in 2006, my wife said let's get the extended warranty. Best decision we have ever made. It has already paid for itself. I find the warranty company to be very good to work with which is a suprise from previous extended warranty offers. This was our first RV and any future RV's will have an extended warranty--for 7 years.

just make sure you ask for an exclusionary warranty, and if possible, review the exclusionary portion of the warranty before purchase. An exclusionary warranty will list up front all those items that are not covered.

Good luck.

We have RV Shield, 7 years, 50 Ded. Understand the warranty and the terms of the contract. Extended warranty will not pay for any loss that is covered by a manufactureres warranty or your normal RV insurance. We have used it 3 times and got our money back and have 4 years left on the contract. It is a "exclusionary " Contract

I went on line and got a quote from Wholesale Warranties for 7 years and a price of $1282 if paid in full. They are a BBB member. "This policy is a fully insured by the A.M. Best Rated (A) carrier General Fidelity InsuranceCompany, awholly owned subsidiary of Bank of America. It is Exclusionary Coverage.
RV Corral where I bought my trailer offered me a policy thru United States Warranty, their "Eagle" for 9 years for $1997 with a $50 deductable. It doesn't have some of the coverage That Wholesale Warranties has.
Wholesae Warranties "will pay to any Dealer or Licensed repair facility by Corparate Credit Card anywhere you may have a breakdown in the U.S. and Canada." It appears to be a better policy. Any opinions or comments about this vendor?

The price sounds good. The financial backing sounds good. Corporate credit card payment is preferred by repair facilities.However..have them send you a copy of the contract before you buy and examine it closely. I was able to download a copy of our RV shield contract before purchase. We paid just a bit less than that 3 years ago.

Rich, I have to assume you purchased your extended warranty before the end of your one year Keystone warranty ??

Requested a quote, for my 3665RE, came back with $1,297 for 7 years.. Asked if the deductible was $50, I think she said yes, but email says $100... hum.. also not included is BUILT-IN TELEVISIONS IN EXCESS OF 29”.. That is pretty much all the current Monty's I think.

She must be watching MOC, I just got email:

Hi John,

I accidentally sent you a $100 deductible email when it should have been $50 deductible (the pricing is accurate though). Also, if you purchase the tire and wheel policy along with the extended warranty, we are currently offering a $50 discount off of the tire and wheel plan. Please feel free to call me with any questions. Thanks!

Sincerely,
Stephanie Torres

"Rich, I have to assume you purchased your extended warranty before the end of your one year Keystone warranty ??"

Yes. I purchased it 8 months into the first year.

"also not included is BUILT-IN TELEVISIONS IN EXCESS OF 29”.. " Are these considered 'Built in" Our Rv shield says nothing about TV sets so I assume it would be covered if it...Fails.. It also puts a 300 $$ limit on Cd,s, media players.

Well I got response on 40" LCD TV...

Q: The one thing I have hart burn with is the not included "BUILT-IN TELEVISIONS IN EXCESS OF 29", I can't think of any 2010 5th wheel that didn't have 32" Built-in Television. Our model has 40" LCD on a lift system. Don't see lift system, so I assume the lift system is covered?

A: "My name is Jeff Shelton, Stephanie just stepped out but I can help you with this one. To answer your question, yes the lift system will be covered but not the TV, if you would like to cover the TV as well we can do so with a $250 surcharge"

Since I had to replace the lift system when I got broke into... that is about $800 (a real rip off for what it is).

Sooo my question to the group, is has anyone had there TV go out in 7 year? Do you think it is worth the extra $250? Heck that is about 1/3 the cost a new 40" LCD TV.

We bought our 2010 Montana last July and are now shopping around for extended warranty coverage. Has anyone used Good Sam Gold Extended Service Plan?
Thanks for any replies,
