Portable Dome Satellite System

Does anyone have one of the dome type portable satellite system? They advertise it to be fully automatic. Does it automatically find the satellites as it advertises? Are you happy with it? They run around $800.00. Costly but cheaper than the roof mounts and can be placed on a mount on the ladder or in the yard if trees are an issue. What is your input?

Thought about it but it's too easy to steal at a CG. To me it's just as easy to use a cheap portable sat dish on a tripod.

We went with the Winegard Traveller. It's all automatic and gets all three DTV satellites for HD. We had the crank up Winegard on our last unit. There are pros and cons on roof mounted units. We have only had a few times we couldn't get signal - usually my fault. However, on those nights it's raining and you get in late, it is really nice to be inside putting up the dish. Good luck.

I have the Winegard carry out. With Dish network...finds three satellites automaticaly and gives me all my HD channels...I made a 50' plastic coated steel cable, drilled a 1/4" eye bolt into the winegard base and I chain lock it to the trailer....Works real well for us...Dyers RV has the unit for $669.00

I have the VuQube 2000 and it finds the satellites automatically as well. Initial setup was a pain but that was self induced (I didn't have the coax tightened down properly (cross threaded the nut I guess)); regardless, now I set the unit out, turn it on and by the time I walk around the trailer it has found the satellites and we are good to go.

Two differeneces between the King Controls VuQube and Winegard carry-out -- the big one being VuQube 2000 requires 110 power that it takes down to 12 volts (has a power brick); the Winegard unit requires 12 volts. -- the other difference is the basic look of the units.

Now that said, VuQube also makes the 1000 series which takes it power from the coax and satellite receiver (no other power source required). However, you have to manually find the satellites the first time and then the unit will switch between the two automatically. It also will not do hi-def where the 2000 will. That is the trade off I guess -- I see some limits to the length of the power cord on the 2000 where you could add another length of coax to the 1000 if you needed it...

All in all - we have only used ours twice and love it so far.
