Legacy package?

When did they come out with the so-called Legacy pkg? And what does it include? I have a 2014 with the fiberglass rear cap and NO in-command. Hmm...

From the Keystone website:
  • Shoreline® Low Profile Power Cord Reel
  • Wireless Rear View Camera with in Vehicle Mobile Display
  • Keystone In-Command Control System
  • Solid Hardwood Cabinet Framing
  • Rear fiberglass cap with automotive paint and 2 layers of clear coat (N/A 3790, 3791)
  • Day and night roller shades in living area (night roller shades in bedroom and hallway)
I am not sure exactly when the legacy package came about but I believe it coincided with the manufacturing changes to the coach rear wall construction matching the pressed wall construction. It was an available option or upgrade when we purchased our 2015 coach.

I thought they came out with the legacy after the discontinuation of the big sky.

My 2015 3440RL was built with the optional Legacy Package. It wasn't cheap but it was loaded with a bunch of options that we really like. The biggest item that we wanted was the traditional fiberglass rear cap, I don't like the flat back Montana's.

Apparently the legacy package features changes from year to year as well as the models.

The legacy package came about in @ 2015.The mountaineer By Montana was discontinued and the legacy appeared. It was confusing to many at the the fall rally when we saw the new models at the factory.

Tthe Mountaineer was gone and our 2013 3402 Montana looked just like the legacy which did not exist till that time. I recall saying well we got a upgrade from a Montana to a Legacy without doing a thing. So..The Mountaineer became the Montana and what had been the Montana became the Legacy. Name switch to offer a less expensive Montana for the folks that wanted the Montana name .People who did not know the brand would never know the mountaineer was gone and they were really buying a renamed mountaineer. We who have the regular Montana went to the legacy with out doing a thing. We can now say we have a Legacy and not a Regular Montana.... Happens all the time in the RV industry

I am pretty sure the Legacy Package came along when Keystone decided to combine the Mountaineer and Montana brands into one in an attempt to lower the entry level price for a Montana. The legacy Package added back in some of the things which used to distinguish the two. The HC has been a separate line since day 1.

The full body paint and a few other things was the "big Sky Package" The Big sky also went away about the same time as the legacy package entered. The legacy package includes many of the former Big Sky package options. Our 2013 3402 big sky looks just like the legacy as all of them did till the change to Montana...Montana legacy.

In 2017, full body paint was optional, not included with the legacy.

Like said Montana's used to be Montana's ... Mountaineers used to be Mountaineers ... Big Sky's used to be big Sky's. They all were in their own price range and all had distinguishing options. My 2000, 2005, and 2011 Montana's all had the molded rear cap and real wood in most of the inside and were bought that way with no special package other than say "Hickory Edition" options. Sometime after 2013 - 2015 Keystone saw a way of making yet more money and did what Rich explained with the different models. To get what many of us older MOCers consider a "Montana" now days, you have to fork over another $5000 +++ for the "Legacy" package to get a Montana like you used to buy outright with the signature molded rear cap and mostly real wood. Damned now my blood pressure is not in a good range ... Ha!

Well I got a upgrade from my 2013 3402 Big sky to legacy in about 2015 for nothing...The Mountaineer was a good unit but the Montana name was a good seller so they did a name change. Remember the Mountaineer was first just Mountaineer then Mountaineer by Montana when that did not increase sales they removed Mountaineer name completely renamed it Montana and called what was the Montana the legacy..Good marketing move and it is working.

Our unit (2016, 3160)was ordered with the legacy package. The Big Sky was still available and there were a lot of upgrades/options that I wanted but could not get unless I went with the Big Sky. Legacy package for my year was the rear molded cap, front and back caps painted with automotive paint. Heated bedroom and bathroom floor (minimal heated floor area). Nicer cabinets, day/night (MCD blackout) roller shades, quiet cool air conditioning and 4100 Mor/ryde suspension. Possibly forgetting some stuff.
Could not get the aluminum covered awnings, heat pumps and other options that were only available in the Big Sky.

Just a bit of information, the NADA pricing guide for RVs did not have the “Legacy Package” listed as an option when determining value for our 2015 Montana 3160 trailer. As a result it makes it very difficult to get any credit for the Legacy Package when trading or selling.

Basically the Legacy Package has no residual value after you purchase, you will not get any of the $5000 cost back when you sell or trade.

We sold our 2.5 year old 3160 for $20,000 less than we paid for it, about 30% depreciation in that amount of time. That said, we did get a good deal on the original purchase and the extra features were very nice.

That's a big hit. NADA is showing a legacy edition for 2017. It is a $10k to $12k premium over the regular Montana. Interesting since the retail cost of the legacy package was only $6k.

does NADA show the FB paint as a separate option? It seems to me that most Legacy models would have that option as well... could explain the difference.

Yes, FBP is a $5k-$6k additional option on the NADA estimate. It was an option from Keystone (2017 retail price $9743). Legacy package was a different option (2017 retail price $6k).

In 2017 the legacy package could be purchased without full body paint. However, if you wanted full body paint, legacy was required.
