Are you boon docking? Electric should heat your water if you are at a campgrounds with electric. Make sure you check your stove to ensure all knobs are off.

I also carry a sensor that detects propane. She are inexpensive on Amazon.

Are your tanks empty? When they get low, they will give off an odor, as if you have a leak.

Welcome to the forum. You may have air in the line that needs to purge, it may take a couple of cycles. Check your panel for electric or gas operation of the water heater.

When turning the propane tanks on you need to do it slowly, if turned on too fast the safety valve will shut it off. Try turning off and back on slowly and your problem may be solved

Regarding the possible leak. It appears from your profile, you may have a Monte that is several years old. If so, the leak may be your red regulator valve. Common problem, and easy and relatively inexpensive to replace.

First of all did you find any leaks? before you start lighting up a any kind of flame. Any how are the tanks empty from a leak? You may have open the tanks to fast and set of the safety valves in the tank hoses. Turn of the tank vales loosing the hoses reinstall them and turn the valves on slowly. then try lighting the stove to bleed off any air in the lines.
Then try lighting the W\H.
