Awnings have gap over door

Our 2020 3120RL has two awnings on the door side. There is a gap of about three feet between them and the doorway isn’t completely covered by either. So, the steps get wet when it rains. Does anyone else have this issue and if so, what are the best fixes?

Most curbside awnings straddle the entry door, so your statement that you have 3 feet between awnings cause me to look at your particular model online. Granted due to design of build, the main awning just does cover your steps ... where is your 3 foot measurement coming from? I assume the second awning is attached to your slide. Any photos?

Awning Gap

The gap that caused the problem is due to a difference in height of the awning on the slide and the awning in the body. Click image for larger version

With your photo, I get it now. You're kind of at the mercy of design and space required for the awning arms. Perhaps someone will come up with a shazzam of an idea. We had a fiver that the awning just barely covered the entry steps. We just put the astro turf step covers on to make them not quite so slippery.

Well documented issue with 5th wheel owners (not just Montana).
Some have recommended an umbrella to bridge the gap.

Thanks. I can’t be the first one, so hopefully a unique solution will get posted.

As mentioned above, an umbrella is a common and inexpensive solution.

We hate this flaw too. Ours doesn't cover the door either.

Now, when looking at new Rigs, this is one of the many things we look for...DOES THE AWNING cover the door OR not.

It's nuts.

*our first 5th Wheel 2016 Heartland awning DID cover the door. No excuse for this.

I am parked next to a new $160K SOB 5th wheel (now the list price is $200K+) and their awning ends right at the end of door just like mine.

Get yourself a huge golf umbrella and put it up between the awnings. It doesn't look the best for a $100k+ rig, but your steps will stay a bit dryer.

We have the same issue, and best we can do is "Grin & Bear It"

If yours has a slide within a foot or two of the door, that's the way it is. We "complained'' about that too then looked at other 5ers with the door and slide in close proximity and found the same thing - regardless of brand name.

We rarely camp in the rain. Has not been an issue.

AZ ... I just have to ask about your reply. Was that tongue in cheek about camping in the rain or is it just because it flat doesn't rain much where you live?

Aaron,

If there is rain in the forecast we generally stay home. Plus the West tends to be dryer with fewer rainy days. Most of our rain comes during monsoon which is not a great time to be out.

our rig has 2 doors, the awning only covers half the door on both, PITA but we live with it, we camp in snow, rain and sun regardless of forecast.

Off topic, but in the early 80's an entire section of I-10 washed completely away both east and westbound lanes near Quartzsite. Like AZ, I too would be apprehensive about camping in Arizona during the rainy season.....

Edit: Make that mid to late 80's. My sometimers evidently kicked in......

I guess I'm just spoiled here. I like green trees and thick forest canopies. I guess I'll just have to live with the rain sometimes.

But I don't have this problem with my awnings either.

Being an avid golfer, I own and use a few LARGE and smaller golf umbrellas. On our 2019 3120RL Legacy and our 2019 Mobile Suites 38RSSA, our two awnings do not cover the front door. I have used various means to attach a variety of golf umbrellas over the years but if there is much wind, nothing works!
