All of this is interesting but my belief is, if it isn't broken don't worry about it.

Thanks for your post. I recently ran across an issue where a mice had gnawed some wiring in behind my battery box area. I had one particular small blue wire that had totally been gnawed into and I couldn't find but the one end coming off the hot terminal. I spoke with the Camping World shop advising of my issue and that I couldn't find the other end but everything seemed to be working. I was told not to worry that in some cases the factory had unused wires that simply were there? I even gave him a picture shot of the wire. I have been towing a few months with no break away break powered. I thought their answer was strange but what else can you do other than ask those who suppose to know. After your post I went back tracking wiring and finally found the other gnawed end back a few inches inside the under panel near the battery area. So much for asking the shop a question!

I reconfigured that blue wire to feed the breakaway switch to my electric over hydraulic controller. It's not always hot anymore. I wired the 12v side of the breakaway switch to the charge line at the pin box junction box. If it wasn't there, I would have had to fish a wire up to the pinbox when I converted.

It is required. In an emergency you don’t want it tripping a breaker

A few days ago I think I was not clear. I was wondering how the complete electrical service manual for a Montana can be obtained.

No such thing as a complete Montana service manual. Individual manuals and service manuals for components installed are available
