Screen door light switch

Last time out the switch on the screen door that turns on the inside lights when the screen door is open stopped working. I tried all the tricks of cleaning and lubing but nothing worked. I bought a new switch and installed it today and all is well. I took the old switch apart and the fiber piece that seperates the contacts was burned off.

Where did you get the switch to replace the broken one?
Part number? Model number?

CORattler,

The bag the switch was in is marked (DOOR SWITCH - SOP - 278146 - $9.49) The switch itself has the numbers 9270 on it. Very simple to install, remove the two screws holding the switch in the door frame, pull out the switch and unplug the two wires on the back, plug wires on new switch and replace in the door frame. I took the old switch apart and the and the small piece of fibber board the slides between the points was burnt to a crisp. The numbers on the paper label may be the dealers skew numbers. The dealer was Folsom Lake RV in Sacramento, Ca.

I removed my switch to find out why it stopped working. When I removed the switch it was so hot it burnt my fingers and it was also crispy inside. IMHO it's a fire hazard. It also binds all the time. Needless to say mine is gone.

This is another good reason to switch out the incandescent lamps to LED's. That door switch will only have to handle 1/10 the current.

It does sound like a faulty switch for sure. Check out this past thread on the subject and have a look at the pictures of the burnt part. Definitely a hazard of some kind!
