TV Modification

Well I can’t find it today. I was going to give credit to another MOCer who did a similar modification and led me to the installation of our new TV. Anyway, yesterday I purchased a new digital TV which I’m very pleased with. I had this opening where we sat the old tube box and re-mounted the new TV in its place.

After removing the old TV (still a good TV about 2 yrs old) out, I placed one board in a vertical position for a wall mount support. (This is where another MOCer gave me the idea on how to mount it.) I first placed the TV on the stand it came with to simply check it out. When deciding on where to position the support for the mount; I started wondering why I needed to remove the original stand when all I wanted to do was make it secure while traveling. So, after mounting the center support for the wall bracket I left the stand on the bottom as well just for extra support. As you can see in the photos I can still rotate the TV to a position where I can make any necessary connections. The TV looks like it is simply sitting on the original stand.
I just thought I would share this idea with everyone!

Hmmmmm. TV modification.........., in forum lingo, I misinterpreted and thought you had done something drastic like putting a bow tie emblem on the front of that Ford!!!! Looks good though!!

You know what they say, 6 of 1 & a half dozen of the other. There all the same to me they all get problems.

In spite of the breakdowns I've had its still cheeper to keep her! (The truck I mean!)

Congratulations on the new TV (tele, not truck)!

Very good implementation and very easy to do. You can swivel the unit out of the way to get to the back connectors, for storage, etc. How difficult was it to remove the existing glass tv? Can you describe that?

When I finally buy a new digital tv/monitor. I like the idea of keeping the stand on it for extra vertical support but I hope to mount the bracket on the side of the cabinet (after shoring things up a bit). That way the rear of the cabinet has impeded storage and using the side walls for the brackets mean I can get a larger diagonal sized unit that fits on the outside of the cabinet and not in the smaller opening of the cabinet itself. I did this in an older TT and it worked out pretty good. And yes, it will be more work especially when measuring correctly but I have done it before. My biggest problem will be getting the old tele out of the existing cabinet - I think I will have to remove the fireplace.

Bill - Great idea! Did your Samsung come with the wall mount, or was that an extra? Where does one find one of those mounts? We purchased a 22 inch Samsung a few days ago and were trying to figure out how to install it. I don't see anything on the back of our new TV that would allow the wall mount bracket as you have. The TV(tele) I removed was narrower than the opening but it was taller. When I put it in I had to remove the upper trim/finish board to the opening. When I removed it I simply tilted it forward and pushed the bottom toward the back and then it came right out. Art-n-Marge, check and see if possibly you might be able to get it out that way. Oh if I had only thought of that when I was putting it in I could have saved a lot of work.

The Samsung came from Wal-Mart as well as the brackets. The wall mount bracket was about $59.00. They had 3 different styles to choose from. Vickstar look on the back for some screw holes. There were four holes on the back of our TV that allowed it to be mounted with four screws which came with it.

I will say that particular TV has a very sharp picture. Since it wasn’t a real large size I couldn’t get a 1080 in resolution but I believe I got the best resolution I could get for the size. One thing I noticed was that the contrast was 30,000 to 1 where some of them were 4000 to 1. I’m not sure what that means but I was told it enhances the colors and makes it brighter. It certainly looked brighter than the one next to it when I bought it.
