Actually the instructions call out 12g wire. My trailer had 14 and 16. I chose to do as the manufacturer called for. And yes, my pump is wired to the trailer batteries with the proper size wire.
Is this forum like the motorcycle forum where they spend all winter splitting hairs?

I don't know weather the newer GM trucks need one or not, but my 2014 needed a special electrical device (HBA-CAM) installed so the truck would recognize the electric over hydraulic brakes. I believe some fords need this also.

My 2012 F350 had an elec/hyd brake controller setting but I believe the earlier ones do need that module.

Hydrastar has a compatibility list of what P/U actuaty needs the 'adapter':

The other two main brands will do as well.

When I called Dexter. they said "maybe" for my truck and why I went with Hydrastar. Everything I could find with Titan said that I would need an adapter.

I have a 2016 Montana with 8000lb axles. How do I identify the brand of axle. I am assuming it is stamped on it somewhere? Where did you place the T from the actuator? did you T at the front of the trailer and then run down both sides or did you run the brake line down one side and then T accross? Is the Stainless version disk brake worth the extra money? Looking forward to this project.

My setup came with hard lines, Tee at the axles to flex/rubber that continue across each axle to the passenger side caliper.

Your Montana is most likely 7,000 pound Dexter axles. You should have a booklet about your brand and capacity. I've never heard of Montana installing 8,000 pound axles. Mor-ryde installs 8,000 pound axles as an upgrade when installing I.S. for 500.00 more if customer request it.

On the back side of each axle is stamped the capacity, part number as well as manufacturer. It ome time there was probably a sticker as well. They are probably the Dexter Divixion of LCI industries if a newer Montana. Older ones conceivably even be AL-KO though doubtful.



Most newer Montanas have 7000 pound axles while some of the earlier ones, depending on model may have 5200, 6000 or 7000 pound axles. A Montana High Country - now that's a crap shoot and another story as ours was shipped with 5200 pound axles under a 38 foot fiver that weighs North of 12K pounds though they are now upgraded to 6000. Other HCs --- ??????

Also, I remember Titan saying the difference from 7-8k axles is the bigger outer bearing and 9/16” wheel studs. Which I upgraded to.

Also, the 7k Dexter axles tubes are 3"x 1/4" wall diameter

8k axles are normally 3.5"x1/4" wall

found the tag. They are Dexter 297697 7000lb axles. Now to verify stud diameter and order everything.

Don't forget to order or make sure you get the axle end spacers!
I did not know about them and had to make some up from the old backing plates.
You will not get the calipers on without them.

If you order from Stopyourtrailer.com they will come with EVERYTHING you need lug nuts and all. I opted to buy Timken bearings and races from Rock Auto. But the ones they send would probably be fine.

DITTO on this comment! Those spacer plates are critical and you're screwed without them.

Does anyone have a part number for the axle end spacers? I am not seeing anything like this on e-trailer.

I don't think they have them. They have you get them from Kodiak direct only if you need them. I had to cut spacers out of the old drum backing plates with a plasma cutter.
