What is the attraction for Quartzsite??
I've haven't been there (yet) and see all these postings for/about Quartzsite. What is it about that place that attracts so many people?

Part of it is the freedom to park about anyplace you want. If you go to the MOC Rally there, it is getting to meet all the other MOC members there and enjoy the Circle of Montanas. A lot of nice people there.
I like looking at all the other rigs there parked helter skelter all over the desert. All the vendors are fun to visit and see all the stuff you can live without or the all the stuff you think you need.
It is just a different way to setup camp. It is also the challenge of seeing how you can get along without all the other things available in a campground. One of the best parts is, you can find places around Quartzsite that are totally free to setup camp.
Give the MOC Rally a visit and see how they get a perfect circle of more than 50 Montanas.

Well, the weather for one is usually in the low 70's. Also if you are into flea markets or are a rock hound, the place can keep you busy for days. But most of all it is just hanging out with a great bunch of people. Our first trip was this last January and we had a great time. So sign up and come on down, I guarantee you that you won't regret it.

That is really a good question and every year I ask myself the same thing. And every year a couple of small restaurants and some tool tents seem to becon me. The BIG TENT also gets my attention every year.

We usually spend the month of January at Quartzsite camping on BLM land. We like to do rock hounding, GeoCaching, exploring old mines, cabins and landmarks, combing through all the vendor booths, buying beading supplies, meeting old and new friends, and fine dining. All of which are readily available in Quartzsite, except for the fine dining component. That we have to supply ourselves.
Come on down and join us! 100+ MOC members and 500,000 RVers are waiting for you.

At first it was the lure of the big tent and the RV show, but that got old, very quickly. Now it's the company of friends, new and old, and all the other attractions the area offers, as Carl said.

I have 2 questions. Do they have honey wagon service and do you have to pay to park there? It sounds great but we don't have a generator and can't get there this year anyway. Just checking for the future. Thanks

Yes, they do have a Honey Wagon service, and several company's drive around the area all the time. And yes you will need a generator or a lot of solar panels. The camping in the area where we are is all BLM land and it is free.

IMO it is a experience that every Rv'er should experience at least once. Thousands of Rv's strewn across the desert. The biggest flea market you will ever see. Lots of food...some of it good.
We been there once.....that's it.

This is the biggest reason.
The first photo is visitors day January 2006, the very first year we rounded up the Montana's in Quartzsite. We had 5 Montana's and a SOB.
The second photo shown in this post was taken January 2008.
The third photo was taken January 2009.
The fourth photo was taken January 2010.
Come on down, we have a great time.

A couple of quick questions:
1. Does anyone bring water around?
2. How long can you camp in one spot?

You can fill with water in town on the way to the camping area and there are water trucks but several of the members have a 40 gal. bladder and a 12v pump that we use..
The official rule for the short term camping area is 14 days but many stay longer

In those pictures, several years at Quartzsite, that's us at the extreme left end of the oval in the 2008 picture! Our first and only time at Q. But we'll be there this year, too.
One thing to note is that although the "official" dates are 1/22 through 1/29 or thereabouts, there will be plenty of people there before and after. In 2008 we were there for just 3 nights and I can't remember whether it was during the official time or not. So you can come whenever you want and leave when you want. This time we'll be there for a week.

Besides the "Big Tent" there is also the RV show with plenty of rigs to walk through and check out. Last year, our first, there were no "pesky" salesman following you around so you could check everything out at your leisure. Oh, did I mention THE GREAT TIME WE HAD WITH ALL OF THE MOC MEMBERS We'll be there again this year Hope to see you there too!
Jack
