Replaced Surge Guard

Power surge took our our Surge Guard. Saved the rig. Repair for the Surge Guard was to be $175, however since I'm a prior customer I was able to get a new one for $225. So, we went that route. New one year warranty. That's twice now that our rig has been saved in the past eight+ years by the Surge Guard.

I have both of them, 30- and 50-amps. It was the 50-amp one that saved me. Only reason I have both is that I had the 30-amp one from several years ago before I bought our Montana. We like to use 50 amps whenever available so I purchased it and use it almost exclusively now. Sure am glad we had it. I've had too many friends whose units were fried inside do to lack of some type of surge protector.

Orv,

I'm happy to hear that the Surge Guard saved you Monty. I too have the 50 Amp hard-wired Surge Guard. I've been telling my friends how important it is to have one. I'm glad to know that it is there protecting my Monty.

I've always used the portable Surge Guard. I don't know why everyone doesn't use some kind of surge protection. It's extremely cheap insurance against some type of catastrophic failure. Of course, if you have a surge protector, you may not even know you've been protected. Why? Because it's there, protecting your rig.

Orv,

Do you know what caused the electrical surge to your Monty? Was it a park electrical issue or lighting? I purchased the same as you are using (50A) the first month we had the Monty. However our friends that have the same Monty haven't yet. I am hoping that they will not regret not having one. Just know that we are protected.

No, we don't know what caused the surge. When it gets right down to it, it really doesn't make much difference. We were protected and that's really what matters to me. When I think what that surge guard cost us in comparison to the amount of cost for our rig in 2000 (0.76%) and it's been over eight years, wow what cheap insurance, huh?

I have the 50A hardwired in also. The only thing I am a little concerned about is that I had to put it behind a cabinet drawer. I am not sure that if the protector goes if it might start a fire or not. It has kept me from a couple of bad CG posts so far.
