A&E Awning ( Dometic Now )
Just a FYI and courious.
Has anybody out there experienced the vinal on the awning seperating from the materal at the top of the roll ( the wrap around )when fully rolled up. I have met several rvers that have the same issue, and was wondering if Dometic is getting lesser quality fabric with the vinal covering, (China) I have always had A&E awnings for all my rvs and never had problems like this before, it seems when the weather is cold it causes the vinal to get hard and when the awning is rolled up it cracks the vinal, and it goes on from there, I did call Dometic and mentioned this problem and was greeted with it's out of warintee.
So I called Carefree of Colorado and I can get a fabric replacement cloth to replace the A&E. so I'll get it done at Q-Site in January.

I'd like to hear more! I damaged our awning on the last trip and am looking at replacing it. I was just going to get another A&E 8500 from Camping World, but now do I need to worry about this?

We had heard, rumor, etc, and we all know you gotta take that with a grain of salt, that there was a batch of bad vinyl. It would delam after a year or so. Course, the warranty was up by then, sighhhhh.
We have had 2 delam, after 4 to 5 years. We replaced the material on both ourselves, absorbing the cost. It ain't cheap. SIGHHH We felt that the delam was in part due to substandard materials on at least one of them, not so sure on the other.
TrailerTrash2, congrats on getting the material!!

Van Man, I called up Camping World and received a quote of 700.00 +-dollars for the new cloth type awning replacement (17.5 feet wide), installed, with the alumium wrap at the top.
I also called Carefree of Colarado, and I was told that so long as I had a alumium tube they could supply me with one of there replacement awnings. on my last campout I meet a rver that got his replaced done at Q-site for a lot less, installed. so as of now I have a awning that looks tattered at the roll, but it still works and no holes, so it will wait untill January Q-site run.
