Hwy 2 - Washington
Has anyone out there taken Hwy 2 from Spokane to Everett Washington. We will be in Spokane next week, then headed toward Oak Harbor. I like to stay off Major highways (I90)if possible but do not want to get into problems. Western Mountain book shows to Grades #10 & #14. 10 dos not sound bad, 14 sounds questionable. Any and all advise appreciated.

We took Hwy 2 from the Seattle area to Spokane a couple of years ago. The road is absolutely passable with a Montana. We even pulled into a forest service camp close to Skykomish. Close fit...but, it worked. We ended up at the Willow Bay Resort at Tumtum (a little north of Spokane at Long Lake).
As long as you are in no hurry, you will enjoy the drive. It is crooked but not anywhere like the Blueridge Parkway.

We took Hwy 2 from Spokane to Everett last August and in 2007. No problems with grades. Stevens Pass is not a problem. You want to stop in Leavenworth if you haven't been there. It is a town built like a Bavarian village and worth the time to eat some German food and enjoy the atomosphere. Icicle River CG is a nice place to park and enjoy the town.

We towed Hwy 2 in this section in May 2012 - good road for those of us who want to avoid Interstate Hwy. Enjoyed the farmland east of Columbia River. 5 mile 12 percent grade approaching the Columbia - not a problem to drive. Very little traffic on our trip. Mountain pass to the Coast very easy to drive. Enjoy the drive!

Coulee Dam, Dry Falls, Ohme Gardens in Wenatchee, Leven Worth as mentioned, All great places to stop. There are two State Parks Lincoln Rock right after you head south on Hy 2 when you reach the Columbia River and head towards Wenatchee and then Confluence just after you head west again after crossing the Columbia River. Ohme Gardens looks down over Confluence. And If you like Aplets and Cotlets They make it Right in Cashmere and you Can go to the factory and get them fresh.

Not sure you are aware you can take a nice detour up to Grand Coulee Dam and back down to Hwy 2. We did this and it was worth the extra miles on our trip. Some of this trip is along the Columbia River and is very scenic. We lunched at a picnic area at the bottom of the dam. Enjoy!

Take the Dam tour at Grand Coulee Dam, at least go to the museum. Both well worth it. If you can go back at night the lazer light show on the face of the spillway is GREAT.
