Greasing Wet Bolts
Do you have to take the wheels off to grease the wet bolts? Wondering if there is another grease gun fitting for the gun that will allow me to grease them. I have a flexible fitting on grease gun but can't aline enough to allow grease to go in because of the tire.

I took out the straight fittings and put in 90 degree fittings.

They came from the factory on the outside! Great idea on replacing with 90 degree fittings. I was thinking how to modify the grease gun and not the fittings. I assume these are standard size? Thanks,

I do all my maintenance at the same time: remove the tires/wheels, check the wheel bearings and seal, grease the bearings, grease the wet bolts, check the U-bolts, then reinstall the wheels and adjust the brakes. Because of my method, the wet bolt fittings are facing outside and are straight.

Lincoln makes a 90 degree grease gun fitting that allows you to get on about any jerk that is hard to access. It screws right on the end of your hose and slips sideways over the jerk. Part number 5883.

DieselGuy, a trick the gent at NAPA told me about that adapter (have one, but haven't used it yet), he said screw a zerk into the end of it and then just snap it onto your grease gun std fitting. Avoids changing the tips on the gun.

It works pretty well as long as you make sure the jerk head is FIRMLY seated as far into the slot as possible ... keep a bit of pressure on it as you pump. If you want to go thru Grainger, their part number is 6WB13 ... no I'm not affiliated

I had my wet bolt installed last year and quite frankly would have forgotten to grease it had it not been for this post! Went out this morning and greased all fittings with just a standard flex hose on grease gun with no issues. Thanks for the reminder even if that wasn't the intent of the post!!
