trading for a 3400RL - Montana Owners Club

Hi, well we have one more RV show to go to in Portland in mid Sept. and if nothing else comes up, will probably trade in our 02 3670RL for a new 3400RL. Better kitchen, flat bedroom floors, you've heard it all before. Been looking at a bunch of others, but just can't seem to find anything that weights in the same, with as much good stuff. Thought we had a winner with a Holiday Ramber that had spec. sheet weight of 11,400 till me saw one in person that dry weighted at 13,600. You'd think that the engineers could get a little more accurate?
Looked at the new "Big Horn" from Heartland ... has a lot of fine componets, but at my wife says, "It was put together by three drunk monkeys at midnight". Could not find a drawer that worked right and even this old sailor could have hung the cupboard doors better ...

We traded our 03 3670RL for an 05 3400RL. Both units have a great floor plan but it's which one serves your particular needs best. We've been very happy with the 3400 design and it tow-ability. Good luck !

We also traded our 2003 3295RK for a 3400RL. I liked both floor plans but everyone needs a change once in a while. If you can do it why not. Life is too short not to treat yourself. You won't regret it.

We just traded our 29' TT for a 2005 3400RL. Wife and I love the floor plan. I pick it up 17 Aug.

I have had my 3400RL for almost 2 years now and have been in love with it since they day I ordered it. The 3400RL is Keystone number 1 selling floorplan for the second year now and we can see why. Enjoy your new coach(s).

We are in the same boat in that we have a hard time deciding which Montana to get. The 3400/3295/3670 are all fine models.It comes down to choice of floor plan, counter and storage space.We have the TV that can handle any of them with no problem.We sort of got away from the 3400 in that we can't figure out why it cost so much more than the other.We ask the question "what are we getting for the difference in $. We are looking closely at the 3670/3295 right now the 3670 is looking good.cost vs benefits

Well one of the reasons for the 3400RL costing more than the 3295RK and 3670RL is you have a 4th slide on it. The 3400RL is also longer, it actually measures 40' in length. When you take that and the 400sq ft of living space that is actually in the 3400RL the cost will continue to add right up.

If you measure from the kingpin to the ladder you will come up with 40' well that is what the builders came up with to get the coach into the garage for winter storage. I have run the tape 4 times this summer and still come up with 39' 6". Either way there is not enough room to walk infront of the coach unless the door is open when stored for winter. Now I might be totally wrong here but I do know they have done some modifications on the 05 model from 04. They have moved the axles back and changed the bedroom area, made the sofa-dinner table slide shorter, not sure if that ended up changing the overall length or not. My 3400RL was the 14th one to come off the production line back in 04, so I am sure things have probably changed along the way.

Don't get us wrong..we really like the 3400.We saw some of the first ones off the line when we toured the plant couple of years ago and took a instant like to it.Guess there is still to much of the bean counter in me.As for the square footage it comes down as to how that room is utilized.Just our personal opinion, think the 3400 is overpriced,,probably because it is a hot seller right now.Will have to go back and measure the interior space,,Could not come up with 400 square feet of living space.We like all three models..Helen will make the final choice based on Her choice of floor plan..right now she is into the 3670....

One of the reasons we chose the 3400 RL was because the kitchen and entertainment center were on the drivers side and the windows are on the side that usually faces your rv site with fire pit, picnic table, etc. With the reverse floor plan you would be looking at your neighbors and a limited view of your patio area. We love our rig and it is very towable. Seems to be very well balanced.

If you look at the 3400 then the 3670 they are very similar.It almost looks like they looked at the 3670 and said"how can we make this a little better" They added a island kitchen, split the long pull out in two and made two smaller ones and called it a 3400???The 3400GVWr is 13770 the 3670 14160. Almost the same all over size, 5 inches difference,3400 pin 1770 3670 2160.Lighter pin on the 3400 probably due to the island kitchen aft. My bean counter question is why is the 3400 so much more expensive..Helen has been a fan of the island kitchen hence the 3295 and the 3400. But has as of late (Women) changed her mind (again)We probably have at most 7 months till we actually buy something...At this point I have NO IDEA which one it will be....

Have you checked with more than one dealer on the price? I don't remember our 3400 being that much more than the others we looked at. There was a little difference in price between the 04's they still had and the 05 but I wanted the 05. We were all set to buy the 3295 until we saw the 3400 but if the price had been a lot high we wouldn't have bought the 3400. We were still undecided right up until the time we signed the papers.

It could be the dealer is selling his 3400's fast enough he doesn't feel he has to deal as much as on other floorplans. But, if you were ordering instead of buying off the lot then it stands to reason he might deal a bit more. Just a thought.

We camped once next to a Hitchhiker that had a big, big lemon painted on the back. I agree with Rich.

We have looked at hitchhikers and we have 3 of them in our camper club..They are a nice ,well built unit..however I seriously doubt that they would be any better or worse than the Montana or any unit in that price range
and would suffer the same problems.We give keystone a thumbs up for their willingness to correct most any problem without hassle.

We also seriously considered Hitchhiker. Higher price by a considerable amount and the construction looked about the same to me when you start poking around and taking a serious look. Nice cabinetry and appointments, though. We couldn't find a Hitchhiker floorplan to fall in love with, either. Just or opinion on that, of course. Montana has been the number one seller for four years straight. Not Hitchhiker. There's a reason for that...
