What would you like to accomplish in 2011?

With the entirety of 2011 ahead of me, I sat down last night after watching the BCS Championship game (War Eagle!) and tried to decide what I wanted to do with 2011.

I am not a New Year's resolution maker. Too disappointing. Besides, at least in my experience, such resolutions tend to be smaller things that we think at the moment would make our lives more pleasant. Mine at least, have been things that were prompted by others in my life as things I "ought to do" to look better, look smarter, extend my lifespan; you know, all that stuff DW sweetly urges us to do regularly.

Since I'm retired, I think I ought to be capable of learning to do ONE new thing. I am celebrating six years of retirement this month and haven't done "it" yet!

This is probably a deeper thought than I've expressed since joining this forum. But since I am closer to the end of my life than to its beginning, I really think I ought to do better at setting and achieving goals than I've been in the past.

I'm not going to set a really lofty goal. Not going to apply to medical school or learn HVAC as a new trade, but I think I needed to decide on something at which I have a reasonable expectation of succeeding before 2012 rolls in.

So I decided, after about the fifth video showing Toomer's Corner being rolled, what I wanted to accomplish. I hope to learn how to use Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and build a new web site using that tool. If you don't know what CSS is (are?), that's OK; this is a "Doofus" thing. Suffice it to say that CSS isn't something you learn overnight; it's something that will take time and dedication for me to master before the end of the year. If I succeed, I'll be a happy camper and will brag about my accomplishment next New Year's Eve.

[taking a deep breath and wondering if I should have kept this to myself]

So, fellow MOCers, I wonder if any of you have a goal to accomplish this year. Do any of you feel the way I do? If so, what's your goal for the year?

Good post, Paul. Food for thought - not that I need any more food, just more thought.

No goals, no objectives. What ever comes up. Every day is a surprise.

Good post my friend,
I hope you excel at the 'sheets thing', you are obviously a smart Dude, one I would like to hang with, maybe through 'osmosis' I will become a notch sharper.
But I wouldn't bet on it.
For this year, Sue and I want to 'Kill the final Dragon', be one of Dave Ramsay's annoying "DEBT FREE" shouters on his radio show. We just have the Montana's debt to conquer, we have slayed the credit card dragon, the house payment dragon, the truck payment dragon.
The Montana is now at $12K
I just landed a good install contract, should cut that goal in half, so maybe we won't have to work all Summer to hit the road. I have 14 A/C units in the shop I need to sell.
Other than that, staying healthy, and most important to me:
Trying my best to be all that Sue thinks I am.
I love her so.

Sounds like Ozz thinks like I do. We just got through paying the truck off at 29,000 miles (2007 model), and this year our primary goal is to pay off the Montana and the boat. The boat has to be done since it was an agreement with DW. We had the previous Montana paid for and it took a lot of thought, a great deal, decent financing and a mutual agreement with DW that we would pay it off within two years. We have accelerated that by a year and believe it is doable (pending a continued resurgance in the economy and in particular the coal market). We broke a couple of our cardinal rules by financing toys in the first place, which is why the goal has been set so high. Retirement is probably 8-10 years down the road (gotta get the girls through college first), but our goal for retirement is to echo Ozz on the Dave Ramsey deal as the only remaining item would be the house and hopefully we can take care of that in the following years. Other than all that financial mumbo-jumbo, my goal (as always) is to somehow be a blessing to others, remain steadfast in my faith and enjoy every moment that the Lord decides to bless me with! My physical goals planned for this year include an addition to the dock (extending one of the fingers 30 feet), installing a 20 foot flagpole at the house, constructing a rear driveway to hopefully allow for the Montana to be kept at the house, construct an arbor at the top of the steps to the dock, and any other project that DW comes up with (basement renovations are at the front of her list!!) Other than all of that, I plan on taking it easy this year and as always squeezing in a rally or two!!!!

TO GET TO 2012, THAT MEANS GETTING OUR HEALTH BACK AND SEEING IF WE CAN FIND A JOB THAT OFFERS HEALTH INSURANCE.

I am hoping to retire next January. I am a Shriner and hope to get more involved in Temple business especially the "Patient" care side.

Since I am not much of a person for making New Year's resolutions, I decided to skip them this year and move ahead to Easter and give up a couple of things for LENT. ------------ Watermelon and Bubblegum... Can I do it??? Who knows!!! JB

I think our goals are doable, barring unforeseen catastrophes!
I need to get over my aortic heart valve replacement from 12/28/10, which I should be able to do no later than 3/30/11. Then I need to have my rotator cuff surgery which was held off due to the heart problem. That surgery should take place in April. My wife retires in early May! My rotator cuff recovery should take until July until I can begin to use the arm again. We will put the house up for sale in May. We will order the 3455SA in May for July delivery. We will have July, August and part of September to get the unit loaded and ready. In September we plan on our third Fall Rally in Goshen, this time with our own Montana in tow!! After the Rally we will go to South Dakota to establish residency, then off to RV driving school for my wife - either in Florida or in California. Finally, south, south, south for the winter. That should fill in 2011 nicely (pant, pant!!).

Larry,
I and I am sure others are eagerly looking forward to the day that you post about that NEW MONTANA. From following your posts over the last couple years, I know it is a dream of yours. Dreams are especially nice when they come true. We look forward to meeting you at another rally with that Montana in tow!!
