Tim, I did the same as you. Used to have (still do) a Street Pilot 2720 I liked a lot. Currently have a Nuvi 1490T that I like very much. Inbetween I got what I thought was the ultimate one to meet my needs, a Nuvi 765T. It has a lot of great features but I had problems from day 1. Garmin replaced it. Same problems. Garmin replaced it again. Same problems. Garmin sent a 4th unit, same exact problems. After the 2nd one they assigned a specific tech for me to communicate with. He put a 765T in his car for his daily commute and had the same problems I had. He then suggested some other models and the 1490T met my needs. It has some things I like better than the 765T and a couple of things I liked better about the 765T. The 1490T is proving to be excellent so far.
There are lots of good models and brands out there. I really am pleased with Garmin's support. In my case, they swapped me the 1490T for no additional cost (they retail the same anyhow at the Garmin site). They also sent me replacement accessories to replace those I had purchased for the 765T that would not fit the 1490T. And they paid shipping both ways. No out of pocket additional for me at all. They could have blown me off after the second or third unit, but they stuck with it to the end. Plus, I really like their units.
