Ext. Door & Hitch

Our 2019 Montana has no exterior door holder so you can leave it open with just the screen closed. The wind keeps blowing it closed. Have others screwed a door holder into the exterior wall with no problem and what style seems best (or a definite no)?

Also, we are ordering a Ford F350 DRW truck and can get the hitch from Ford when ordering $1495 or buy independently. Any opinions? We have never towed a fifth wheel so looking for guidance. Our research is tending toward B & W.

Thanks!

CW sells a nice stainless steel door holder opener latch.

The B&W is a choice hitch. Do you have a SWB and puck system?

Concerning your door, I would look into one of two things. They are putting magnets on the storage/basement doors now and that maybe an answer for you. I plan on doing this myself. The magnets are strong and you can purchase them from your dealer in either black or white colors. That is where I purchased mine. The second idea would be to put the arm and catch holder (that's what I call them anyway) that hook onto the door to keep them open. Again these can be purchased at any rv dealer.

Something like this for the door: https://www.amazon.com/Red-Hound-Aut...rv+door+holder

For a short bed I prefer Pullrite. On a long bed I would use B&W.

I used a phone magnet the kind you mount on your dash works great, y o u don't have to make any holes in your rig.

if you are going to use your f350 a lot I'd look at the srw model.

Door latch

Be sure to pre-drill the holes in the fiberglass, + dab a little silicone on the holes before installing the screws.

I drive my Ram crew cab 4x4 dually with 8 foot bed every day. Hasn't been a problem.
5400 pound payload isn't a problem either, helps me sleep well at night.

For a short bed just turn the ultimate hitch around. Can’t beat a 38lb hitch that pulls 20k impressive engineering. I have a long bed so mine is turned in the other direction. At least look into them.

B&W 20K is solid and well made paid under $900 installed at local tire dealer.

We used magnets with double back tape, our f350 drw came with the 5th wheel hitch from ford, we have had no issues.

I can agree with this statement. Heavy camper + DUALLY = SAFTEY. Once you pull with one don`t really want to go back to SRW.

I just bought a 2018 F350 drw with puck system, and found a used 20k B&W puck hitch for $650 On Craigslist.

Most RV parts places have stainless steel door holders. Stay away from the plastic ones unless you like replacing things frequently. I ordered my 2013 F-350 with the factory puck system and the factory option Reese hitch. That was less expensive than just getting the 5th wheel prep and then ordering the hitch for the puck system separately. Added possible bonus - the hitch will be covered by the truck factory warranty.

Door bracket and truck

I installed a door holder purchased at local camper dealer. One part screws into door, other part into sidewall. Works great!
Also have a 2013 F350 diesel with the camper package. No rails in the bed, works with a puck system. Love this. Currently have a Curt Q20 slider hitch but am thinking of purchasing a Blue Ox system, at which time my Curt will be for sale. Both are great systems, just personal preference!

The friction hinges on our 3121 are so stiff, I don't think anything short of an F5 tornado would blow it closed. We have the B&W Companion on our 17 F350 dually with the factory puck system. Dealer installed it for $1k. Seems to pull good, but this is our first 5th wheel, so don't really have anything to compare to.
