Mold on awning
I noticed we have some mold on our awning. What do people do to clean and remove mold on the awning fabric?
Thanks

well if it is a fabric material dont use a bleach solution if it is the vinal type that one you can use a bleach solution but wear old clothes bleach will kill your clothing colors.
I guess camping world has something for fabric awnings.

Mines vinyl. I've used Tilex or Lysol mold and mildew remover over the years. Spray a little on, use something like a swiffer mop to work it around, then rinse very well.

Glenn Addams taught me in early morning to spray on the cleanser, then roll up the awning and let is set in sun for half to full hour then unroll, brush off and rinse.

Some good strong Dawn/water solution and a good brush on a long handle! Scrub down good and then rinse real good and let dry before rolling up again! I have used awning cleaner also but the Dawn seems to work the best! I have spot treated before using the Dawn solution with Awesome also!

Like John, Glenn also showed me how to clean the awning. The best time of the day is early am while the dew is still on the awning. It's amazing how the dew loosens the mold so it can be wiped away.

Remember, mold doesn't grow on the awning material. It grows on the dirt that is on the awning. An occasional cleaning of the dirt on the awning will prevent mold growth. As Glenn Adams once stated sometimes a good wipe down of the morning dew goes a long way in removing dirt and preventing mold.
Now if you are lazy like me and don't do a lot of preventive maintenance on the awning like I should I have found that I spray on some Awesome, roll it up and let it sit a while then unroll and wipe it off helps get rid of the mold.

I've used just a solution of car wash and water or Dawn dish soap in a water solution and scrub the awning on both sides with my brush and extender handle. The underside is fun as I try to keep the soapy water off me! Then rinse both sides with clear water. Let the awning dry completely before rolling up.
It's a good practice to avoid rolling up the awning when it is damp unless you're going to put it out soon. Also, it helps prevent mold and mildew if you periodically extend your awning like on a sunny day.

With our vinyl awning, we have had best results with spaying a bleach solution on the problem area...let it set for a few minutes, then run a brush over the area, and then rinse well.

On the vinyl awnings simply mix a bleach solution with water half and half in a spray bottle. Wet the awning top and bottom with a garden hose. Spray the bleach solution on the top only really good. You can spray the bottom too if you want, but it isn't necessary as the roll-up will take care of that. Roll it up for a few minutes. Roll it back out and rinse both sides. Very little brushing will be necessary if any at all.

Ditto what Clemson said, as my owners manual advises the same. If you're energetic, the Mr.Clean magic eraser woks pretty good on those stains.
