Cleaning the toilet

Okay, folks. I am new to all of this. When routinely cleaning the toilet, can you use the same type chemicals you would use at home? We use liquids such as Lysol or Chlorox Toilet Bowl Cleaners for this normally. I realize that the toilet itself is made out of porcelain and should not be a problem. It is the black water tank and any tubes that connect that I was thinking about.
Thanks. Lynne

I use those Clorox bowl cleaners, the disposable kinds.

I do NOT flush them!

To date, have not found any problems with the chemicals.

Remember, this is a holding tank, to be dumped regularly, hopefully with LOTS o water and very little paper. All that water will dilute the cleaning chemicals if they are used in moderate amounts.

I use the scrubbing bubbles and toilet brush. We use organic enzymes and try not to use any more chemicals than we have to.

I do like Carol.. Disposable pads on a long stick and dispose it in the trash, not the tank.

I use baking soda. Swish with brush. Add distilled white vinegar (about a cup +). Swish again. Flush. Works like a charm. No chemicals and no danger. Vinegar is a natural disinfectant and neutralizes odors. I use a Clorox or other disinfectant wipe to wipe off the seat and stool edge and lip.

Soft scrub here. Use it in the shower, kitchen and bathroom sinks too. No problems to date.

Do you think Borax would be ok in the RV for cleaning?

One thing to do is ask the park you are in. Some, those with lagoon's mostly, have certain chemicals they would prefer not to see going into their system. Dish soap for us.

I think it would work pretty well and should be safe. I still prefer the baking soda "swish" and then a cup of vinegar to kill odors and disinfect. I also use baking soda to scrub the sinks. So inexpensive and effective.

Routine when tearing down camp if possible: drain tanks, add 1 cup of Borax, 1 cap full of Calgon water softener, and a gallon of water. This will slosh around during the next leg of our trip in the tank. The Calgon makes the inside of the tank slippery and the borax cleans it. Never had a problem, soooo... Borax in my opinion could be used to clean the toilet bowl.

I put fabric softener and flush it down when I clean the toilet. Also use the blue stuff after we dump with water. So far we have never had a bad smell or problem with our black tank. It is the same tank 8+ years since we got our Montana.

I cut open one of the deodorant pods (like Campa Chem) and pour the powdered contents into the toilet and then use my toilet brush to clean inside of toilet. I finish filling up the bowl with water and then flush the toilet while continuing to brush the toilet (rinsing the brush at the same time). This makes it possible to clean the toilet and charge the holding tank at the same time. I finish cleaning the outside of the toilet with Clorox wipes and I'm done. In between dumps I use Scrubbing Bubbles.

We use Happy Camper as the tank treatment and as part of diluting it in the bowl, we use it to clean the bowl then do a touch up with Lysol cleaner or similar.
