The roads were bad in spots but really???

Had an unexpected "shakedown" trip. We are in Quebec now from SE PA but had some issues.
1. Minor: bottom diffuser fell off of light over kitchen table. Nut holding it on fell off.
2. Minor. One celing fan blade had a screw work its way loose. Lost screw. Trip to Lowes needed.
3. More significant. Valence and shades fell off of kitchen table slide. Apparently 6 small/short screws held it up. Found four of the six screws. Not sure how it stayed up that long. Those shade mechanisms are not light. Not sure how to remount them any more securely. I guess it will be a warranty visit.

Some of the roads..moreso entrance and exit ramps are awful...patchex and patched again....brutal.

Wait till the major livingroom trim falls off. Not only were the roads especially bad (I-40 east of Tulsa) but the way they were put on didn't give any thought to bumps on the road.

We have had similar experiences, once pulled in to a campground to see the lights over our counter swinging freely completely broken off from the ceiling, lights saved by the chain. Toggle bolts fixed that problem forever.

Better make sure your sliding closet doors are secure, not to mention your clothes hanger that is thin aluminum and attaches to the ceiling with 3/4" screws. These are all things that "fell" off during our first 500 miles towing. Within the next 1000 miles the rear emergency latch broke on a window we had never opened!

After that everything seemed to hold together pretty good.

Last trip all the large trim that runs along the top of the dinette slide fell off no damage , couple of scratches, table survived, put it back up with trim screws, filled holes. The others were loose so I screwed them all fast. I`m waiting for a cabinet to come off the wall but checked, seemed tight for now. We did encounter some very ruff roads due to construction, slowed way down but not soon enough I guess.

Who would have ever thought that we would drive these things down our road system at 55 mph or even 65 mph.

Valence should be screwed into bottom of cabinets above and two screws through fabric to keep bottom edge of valance close to slide wall. Day/night shade held by screws into 1/8" inner wall...harden holes with thin ca glue, let dry, put screws back in. John

Less a testament to build quality (or lack thereof) than to the DEPLORABLE state of our highways. What are they doing with all the gasoline tax money they collect?

as a side note. The truck is always right in front of the Montana on all the roads we travel and nothing has ever fell off the truck.

That is a very good point Rich! I traveled some of the same "bad" roads with my 2008 3400RL and nothing fell off inside. The suspension on my 2014 is a lot better than the 2008. Goodbye quality....hello higher profits!

Pothole on I-10 in very west TX bounced my wife's Kitchenaid Mixer OUT of the sink and dented the floor and later we discovered the front frame hitch crossbeam cracked, eventually lowering the Montana onto the bed rails...
PS, also shut down the radio in the truck, bounced us almost up to the ceiling, and temporarily partially disabled the Transmission.
"Collision" insurance coverage covered/fixed almost all of the damage.
Reese Goosebox "safe for use with Lippert Frames" sent to the trash.

First month of ownership the we almost lost the microwave. Note to Keystone: "You need to screw the microwave into the mounting plate that you previously affixed to the wall not just the cupboard above it! That's what those long screws/bolts on the underside of the microwave are for."

Aside from that we've been very fortunate the last two years.

I like you can remember when we built all of these intersrstates and now we can't even maintain them.

One of our common comments as we travel is "This would be a good place to build a road." Not trying to pass judgement on the pros or cons here, but when you look at the facts, the government continually mandates better fuel efficiency in vehicles. While that is good for our wallets, less fuel purchased means less road tax collected. At the same time, when Federal money is involved, states are forced by law to pay the highest labor rates. This applies not only to the people doing the work but the suppliers. Good for those doing the work, bad for those (us) paying the bills. So bottom line is that as tax money dwindles the cost of road projects are rising. The end result is the poor roads that we have to travel.
