Roof

I have a 2014 3582RL and it is coming up on a year. I just had the dealer repair my roof with the staples lifting. It took 6 weeks to get it back. Roof was really dirty, I scrubbed it clean using the roof cleaner. Any recommendations on a protectant or some product to protect the roof?

Jim I am wondering if Keystone came good for the cost of the repairs to your roof and do you know what type of repair was done by your dealer. There are quite a number of folks with issues with their roofs and the staples as well as the flashing on the outside edges.
I am awaiting word from the dealer if Keystone will agree to repair my roof since it is obviously a manufacturing defect or rather poor workmanship and QC.

Glad yours was repaired, a heck of a long wait to get it back however.

I have used nothing re protective product on our roofs IAW manufacturer recommendation. I just wash every few months, I use dawn. Have never had a roof issue. Do get stains, particularly where the ACs drain, but feel scrubbing them is likely harder on the roof then leaving them. If you get ahead of the curve, periodic washing will keep the roof looking decent.

I think you will find many members here use blue dawn dish soap. I think it works well. I mix a bucket with a generous amount of dawn and a long handled scrub brush. Cleans the roof well. Just make sure you keep rinsing the sides. Someone here also has said not to use a scented type, birds may want to peck at the roof

If the soap smells like fruit the birds and the squirrels will ruin your roof going for what they think is food.

I use Aerospace 303. Works good, lasts about 4 months at a time, coded white for easy identification. Seriously ... it is a good product to protect your rubber roof. It noticeably reduces the black streaks that normally occur on any RV and makes cleaning a bit easier next time. It does make things a bit slippery up there, so work front to back so you can just exit via the ladder when you're done.

Since Keystone says you don't need to do anything to your roof but inspect it for damage, and washing it with the wrong product can attract bird damage, I have chosen to let the rain wash it. That way I avoid work and don't have to worry about falling off the roof. Since I keep the sides of the Monty clean and waxed with CroftgateUSA's Wash and Wax, I don't get many black streak caused by the roof.

That gives me more time to concentrate on what I'm good at, Drinking Beer.

Thanks for all the good comments. As far as the roof repair goes, my aluminum crown molding was coming up on both sides and it was really loose. When I called Keystone they refused to repair. I told them that they are denying my repair and you have not had a dealer inspect my roof. They agreed to have my dealer look at the roof. My dealer agreed that the roof was in need of repair. After three weeks of trying to get it approved Keystone finally approved the repair. The dealer lifted the sides of the membrane and removed all of the staples and replaced with stainless steel wood screws and then put a couple of layers of gorilla tape over the screws and reinstalled the rubber membrane. The crown molding is nice and tight the way it is suppose to be.

Thanks Jimmer for the info, I have also been refused directly by Keystone regarding my roof repairs, they are the same as yours without the staples, don't think they used any in mine.
We shall see how the dealer makes out, he claims it should have a whole new roof, but would be surprised if Keystone do anything except authorize the same resolution as you were given.

Like a lot of others I use blue Dawn liquid soap about twice a year with a plastic hand brush on my hands and knees. Still have a lot of black marks on roof. We spend 3 1/2 months in Mesa Az. with the dirty air and I'm sure that doesn't help.

I for one don't believe the black streaks are cased by the EPDM rubber.
I have a white tuck and if it sits out in a couple of rains it will have black streaks. I think it is the rain or caused by the self leveling caulk witch turns black. Also when you wash the roof milky color comes off not black. An old Holiday Rambler that I go by gets black streaks and its roof is aluminum.
