ST GEORGE UT

This is our first experience on going southwest for the winter. We live in Illinois.
We're heading to St George & have booked a site at the Temple RV park there. However, now we're thinking that maybe it will still be too cold there from November through March.
If we find that to be true, does anyone have a suggestion on how southwest farther we should go & any RV parks that are suggested.
My wife has COPD so we're trying to find a spot that would be more to easing her breathing problems also. Towards spring we intend to travel up towards Idaho to visit her family so we want to stay in the southwest area.

Any help would sure be appreciated.

We have stayed at both Temple View and St George camp grounds and found the weather very reasonable. this has only been durning Nov. If you head farther south about 35 miles into Nev. there is Mesquite just inside the Nev border, better weather than St George, I would check ahead for camping facilities before going or you could end up bry camping for a few days. There is a campground behind Virgin River Casino but I don't know the name of it.
Good luck and happy travels

Allen,

What route did you take into St George ?
We're thinking of taking Rt40 to 93 to Vegas and then Rt15 to St George.

Come to Lake Havasu City, AZ weather great in the winter. Lots of parks and low rent. Just saying.

There is a several thousand foot drop going to the other side of the Virgin river canyon. Your wife's lungs will appreciate the lower elevation.

Two years ago we spent 10 days at Zion River Rv Park in Virgin Utah after leaving Lake Havasu. This was in early April and the temperatures were about 10 degrees cooler than Havasu, especially overnight. It can get down to below freezing on occasion during the winter months we were told.
This is a great campground along the Virgin River and is close to both Zion, Bryce Canyon and other must see places. Having said that you won't likely see much of Bryce in the winter months as there was still quite a lot of snow there in April when we visited.

We found Lake Havasu area to be about 10 degrees cooler on average than what it was in Yuma during the winter months.

Virgin is at about 3500 ft elevation, you drop down to around 2500 or so in St George and Havasu is around 850 ft. Considerable difference in elevation and temperatures during the winter months.

We in BC, Canada are used to water and green around us, we liked Havasu because of the lake and more moderate temps compared to Yuma and on occasion have spent time there on our way to and from Yuma.

Wherever you decide on, enjoy the new adventure into the West and go and do what feels right to you and your wife.

Happy Thanksgiving.

If you do end up in the Lake Havasu area, you could join the MOC in Quartzsite in mid January. It's only 75 miles south. If you've never been to the Q during snowbird season, you should go at least once.

We spent 3 weeks in the St George area in November two years ago. I remember the weather was generally clear and sunny, but it was chilly with wind many days. Beautiful area and lot's to do with the parks nearby. We left the first part of December and went to Lake Havasu with the idea it would be warmer and guaranteed no snow.
