Brakes on F250

I had the brakes on my F250 replaced today since I was getting a little paranoid about having 140,000 miles on original set. I was pleasntly amazed that the rotors were all in good shape and didn't need to be turned and that the tech said the pads were only about 60% consumed. What experience do others have with brakes on their trucks?

I've got 147,000 on my F-250 and have had the brakes replaced three times, rotors and calipers twice. Apparently you didn't do a lot of towing since you've gotten that kind of mileage out of the original equipment.

76,000 on mine with lots of towing and the brakes are still in excellent condition. I'd be ecstatic with 140k with our amount of towing but don't expect it would go that far on ours.

98000 on mine. Replaced tires in November and inspected the brakes and rotors at the same time they are still in good shape. Hope I can get 140K out of mine.

I think it was in 03 that ford changed the design and material used in the brake and rotors. I know I heard of many having rotors warping and wearing fast prior to that time. but have heard of little brake wear after that date. That could be why ORV went thru so many.

My '99 F350 had 69k when we traded it. Original brakes still in excellent condition. It was our TV. The '03 only had 51k when we traded it but same story on the brakes. I suspect maybe the brake problems were prior to the super duty's debut as a '99 model?

I think one thing that makes a difference is how much city driving. As fulltimers, a lot of our miles are highway miles. Towing, sightseeing, etc. Some city, but not as much as when my truck was my daily driver back and forth to work. The '99 served that purpose for the first 45k miles of it's life, however.

On my '92 and '95 F150's I replaced the brakes at around 75k to 80k miles so that fits the pattern.

Nah, he just never stopped for lunch :-)
Wow! That is amazing. My Pathfinder has had two sets brakes put on it since I bought it new and I never tow anything with it. But the second set were not put in correctly by the brakeshop so that doesn't count. We have 108K on it now.

Put new everything roters,calpers,pads in Jan 2004 about 40,000 and replaced the front pads prior to trip to KC MO. they were ok but replaced while they were off, about half used and on warranty.The back were ok.

My 99 F-250 with 67,000 miles has original brakes, they were checked at 47,000 and dealer said they had more than 50% life left. Have been towing with the Ford since new. Almost 10,000 with the Monty in the last year, with plenty of mountain driving.

Hmm Maybe the late brakers had the warping rotors I was told about. and read about over on that ford deiselplace.

115,000 on my '01. Approx. 75% towing. Original pads and rotors with 50% wear. We do have a minor glazing problem that makes the brakes "moan" from time to time. Not to worry though, a new TV will be infront of the new Mountaineer! Wheeee!

I got about 60,000 out of the original front pads and about 45,000 out of the replacement front pads. I got about 110,000 out of the rear pads. 99.5 F350 Lots of towing!
