Just being a bum for the day.........
Dolphin Bay Oyster Bar
It was such a beautiful day, I had to see the sights. Just 2 days into the South Padre experience is like a kid at Summer Camp.
We are in a super nice RV resort here, I have to pinch myself every once and a while to make sure it’s real.
I bicycled over to the beach, a Sunday, so there were a mix of families and people from the surrounding area. Babies in the arms of new parents, young laughing children running into the surf, healthy wet suit clad young adults, with their surf boards at the ready, charging the oceans pounding surf.
As I rode around the sidewalk, separating the Sand and the common area, where food was being prepared and families were gathered, I got a few seconds of the sounds of laughter, the smells of cooking food, I was eavesdropping on everyone’s fun, for the snippets of time I was passing each gathering.
I rode around through the RV campground, to the far ocean side of the area.
I could hear the music emanating from the final destination I had in mind, the Dolphin Bay Oyster Bar.
As I rode up, there were motorcycles, bicycles and cars surrounding the pace. I rode into the courtyard, parked next to the building and walked into the bar.
The open bar is just off the channel separating South Padre Island with Boca Chica, you can see across the ˝ mile or so to the slender finger of sand, a few uninhabited old houses up on stilts. The Shrimp boats coming in and out. There was a man sitting at the other end of the concrete bar, his dog occupying the seat next to him, you could see his furry head visible above the bar, happy to be there with his Dad. The 3 garage doors were open to the beach side, where people were sitting at picnic tables.
I ordered a drink from a young bartender, she had a pierced lip, tattoos on her arms, about 5 feet tall, probably topped the scales at 90#. She looked to me about 14 years old, but they all look young anymore. She was sweet and accepted my dollar tip with a polite smile.
As I was sitting there with the breeze in my face, the music in my ears and the happy people all around, I says to myself, “Hershel, this is livin’ large.”

Ozz, your way with words really brought the smells, the emotions and the people to life in my mind. This is one of the best reasons for being a 'tana' owner. I love retirement!

Brad and Carol, that is why we left Havasu about a week early. Would have left Three weeks early, but it would have cost us the pre-pay.

Ozz, you need to write a regular column on travelling in your Montana! You do have a way with words Hershel.

Ozz, your use of words are like the use of your hands, both know how to complete a task or express a thought. You are easy to follow and digest and I look forward to every day when I open this forum for a post from you, so I can also sip that beer and experience the sights and sounds of your adventures. It helps to make the winter pass.

Ozz,
Nice thoughts, nice observations, nice words.
Now, please get back to your mods so I know what to do next!
Think I might try a cold Corona in the meantime.
This retirement thing needs structure, O'Herschel!

Hey Ozz, you wouldn't be in the KOA on SP would you. We drove down that way today, and I'll be darn if I didn't see a Monty with that twirly thing overhead. Dang the weather was nasty, but at least it was a few degrees warmer on the island than here in Port Mansfield. We'll probably move to Arroyo City in a couple weeks.

Hey Will, yep, that is me! I was pretending to be a cat most of the day, asleep in the recliner. I went to Wally world for some Gumbo fixins, to be prepared tomorrow. Yea, that wind is sailing through the park, not many people are stirring around.
Rog, not much construction going around here, I have 3 or 4 small projects to do when the darn wind slows down. I was asked by the maintenance supervisor to install a couple of A/C units in the office, and one of the work campers wants me to put an outlet in his Mobil Suite, so I'll be busy with those jobs soon.
See you guys.
Ozz
