Marathon Blowout
Perfectly good looking tires at 80lbs when we left Wilmington NC 30 miles into Ohio I had a blowout and tire on other side totally gone but holding air. Now I am thinking of G614 tires. Question is will they work on 6" rims? Do I need 7" rims anyone had problems with clearances with this tire? Thanks

It all depends on your model year and the rim specifications for such. Pre-2008 rims were spotty as to whether they were rated for the 110 psi tires such as the 614. We have them on our factory rims with no problems. Check the back side of your rims to see what the load stamp or psi stamp says. We have not had any issues with clearance and have had no problems with the 614's. There may be other options depending on your rig and the rig weight as well. Welcome to the forum and wish it could have been under better circumstances. And if you have the tires, and the rig was damaged, Goodyear has been pretty fair about paying for the rig damage to other forum members. The Marathons have earned a nickname here on the forum "Marabomb", little consolation now, but definitely contact Goodyear customer support.

Not sure why you would want to go to that kind of expense. If you had Marathons on then LT tires would handle it just fine. If you are really worried about it go with the Michelin Ribs then.

Having 614's I'm sure why someone would want to go to that expense. On the other hand if I had older rims and couldn't go that way then I'd go with the Michelins. It's all in what makes you feel comfortable.

I replaced my marabombs after a blowout with LT tires. I now run Michelin LTX's on my truck and trailer. Do contact Goodyear customer support. They made good on two tires and my trailer damage.

After having a perfectly good Marathon blow-out we bought G614 tires based on MOC recommendations. They were among several upgrades we recently had moved over to the new Monty as part of the trade. Thanks to the MOC we noticed that this time around we were not the most uninformed people involved in the trade.

I would definately get rid of the marathon tires. The longer you keep them the more likely you will have a problem. They will blow out any time no matter how they look. Safer and cheaper in the long run to go with a different brand.

I just had Toyo's put on in Brookings Oregon, Feb 27th and we have travel about 1200 miles and so far they look great. I check them ever 200 or 250 miles and inside and front side. Also check pressure. I torque the wheel lugs every other day, on our travels. I had the Mission tires and checked them the same, for 5 1/2 years with no problems. Lucky maybe or Blessed, what ever it is I hope it keeps up.

If your rims are not rated for G rated tire pressure, and you choose to stay with E Rated tires; based on my life experiences and on this forum's shared information, by all means go with truck tires, Here's a Truck tire with a 106mph speed rating. We bought our 3075RL from a smart gentleman who has been building fire trucks and apparatus for 35 years. This is the tire he uses in E rated load range service on all of his equipment trailers and trucks. He included a new set on the camper when we bought it.
