SAFETY RECALL NOTICE - Montana Owners Club

Received a Safety Recall Notice today for my 2011 Montana due to the Dexter Axles. The recall states: "It has been decided certain Dexter axles manufactured between August 15 and August 30 and installed as original equipment on Keystone recreational vehicles may contain cracks in the spindle weld. These cracks can propagate and cause the spindle to detach from the axle tube, resulting in the separation of the wheel end from the vehicle leading to an increased risk of property damage and/or vehicle crash."

Guess I will contact the dealer tomorrow and have it checked. Have a planned trip next weekend of about 800 miles round trip and don't want any surprises.

I'm assuming they are refering to 8/15-30 of 2010?

Got my recall today, dealer did not know anything about it so I got the numbers off my axles and called Keystone and was told mine were affected. Sure made me feel good since ours is only 4 weeks old today and we are getting ready to head south for the winter.

Thanks Doberman for the heads up. Our 3465SA came off the line September 8th with axles dated September 1st.
We were leaving tomorrow for a 2 week stay in a Provincial park. About a five hour drive. I left a message with Keystone and Dexter last night. I'm not sure I trust our dealer to lift the chassis properly to change out the axles. There's also the wait for replacement axles to be shipped. I'd consider the 8 hour drive to Keystone's facility.

Got a confirmation from Dexter and Keystone that our unit was not in the recall list. We are so fortunate. My thoughts go out to those who will have to deal with this. Hopefully most if not all of these RV's are still on the dealer's lots.

Yes, this is a very proactive approach and how it should work. Kudo's to Dexter for getting on it so quickly.

Original post I made a typo, my axels were not in the recall after calling Dexter.

I stopped by my dealer on the way to the State Park to camp this weekend.............I was lucky and my unit is clear.

Affected numbers are: 131014789, 131015039, and 131015040. I got these from my Montana Dealer on Sat. I am affected by the recall only had the unit for a month. Very disappointing!
