Wanting a 3400RL

Hello Group.

We are wanting to purchase a 3400RL. The new ones are out of our budget, so used is our only option. I am wondering how far back in years can you go before you are getting too old.

The 2009 model year had both a Montana and a Hickory edition. What is the difference? in the two?

Was there any frame or suspension changes during the model years. How about interior upgrades?

Thanks Jim

The Hickory edition had upgraded cabinets and an upgraded interior. If I were in your situation I'd pm Hook. Larry is a salesperson for Camping World back east and is a man I would trust. He can tell you what CW has across the country and keep an eye out for what you want and need.

The term "getting too old" is solely dependent upon the care that the rig was given. Some members have rigs that are over 10 years old and have been completely happy with them. There are things to look for in terms of wear and tear on a rig that will provide quick indications of how the rig was cared for (condition of carpet, condition of roof, working appliances, dependable plumbing, suspension lubed, dated tires, etc.) Buying a used rig is no different than buying a used car, do your homework, be diligent on the inspection, and there should not be a problem.

I am currently trying to find a 3400 for another MOC friend.
Found one in Utah and one in SC. There are few and far between. I'll be glad to do what I can to help. PM me if interested.

We just bought a 2005 2955RL and it is in excellent condition. Like others have said, it depends on how it was cared for. I bought mine from Camping World in Valencia, CA. Be patient and remember to print out a PDI (pre-delivery inspection) from this site and take with you when you go to look and especially before you purchase.

We have a 2009 3665. Our cabinets are oak. After we bought, Keystone changed to the Hickory Edition. They changed the cabinets to hickory, that's what that means. Personally, we prefer the oak because we like the lighter wood.

Have you already found a 2009 model you're interested in? In my opinion, it's a great model to spend time in. It has most everything you'll ever need, and lots and lots of room. 4 slides opened out and you can throw a nice party. One challenge you'll have is finding the hiding spot in the bedroom. They put them in several different locations. Good luck.

We love our 2007 3400RL, the old gal has plenty of life left in her. We don't want/need a newer one.
Good luck in your search, keep us informed.

Thanks Everyone, Now the wife has seen a 3100RL and thinks that floor plan would be a better size for her (us?) SO, in her looking we found 2 3100RL units @CW in Strafford, Mo. Since the search has now turned from used to new, if you guys look at their pricing, what do you think? We are in Springfield, Mo so they are close to us.

We no longer full time, only 4-5 months south in the winter, week long trips in the spring and fall and 2 months in Colorado.

Neither have the 2nd a/c, or dual pane windows, so they may not work for me. My last 5th had single pane and the M/H had dual pale and there was quite a difference in both sound and thermal difference.

Thanks Jim

I would strongly suggest getting the dual payne windows, it makes a world of difference.
You can add the second air, but not windows.

we have a 2006 and she might have some miles on her but she still looks good just like other have said it is all about how well she was taken care of during her life. there are a few thing to look for check the front closet for repairs this can be a indication of frame flex. just like the other said check the appliance at what works or has been replace. I think the last is the roof the condition of it has it been repaired or is the black from the EPBM come threw. there are a lot of nice or even great 3400rl out there but there are some bad ones the other day the DW and I were at the keystone dealership here in Cal and they have 3400rl who ever own it "ran her hard and put her away wet" sorry old horse guy.

Jim, You may want to check with PPL in Houston area since you are in Livingston Tx.
Just a thought. I know a few people who have delt with them and were satisfied and they sell a lot of units.
