Up or Down?
My friend with SOB 5er tells me his owners manual says to put the day/night shades in the "up" position when transporting his unit. I know that I had to do that when I had my TT with regular mini blinds in order to keep them from beating themselves into a crumpled mess, but I cannot seem to get my brain to understand why I would have to do that with these day/night blinds. Anyone have any insight into this?

We always travel with the day blinds down and have never had a problem.

Is this like the question as to whether the toilet paper should feed over the top or under?  I am an 'over the top' kind of gal...
We travel with ours down too and have not had an issue BUT we have only done one trip and no one told us we couldn't travel with them down. So we do!

We always travel with the day/night blinds down and have never had a problem. We are on our third Montana.

I have been traveling with mine down as well and have had no problem. Seems to me that they should be just fine because they are supported firmly at both edges. Thanks for the response.

We always keep ours down and they are just fine.
By the way BusyCarol....Our roll is over the top also.

We leave ours in whatever position they happen to be when we move, no apparent problems yet and we're on our 3rd Montana with them [since 2003]. They are nite up and day down since we don't put both up very often. I suspect that the 'put them down' is for when both are up since the bouncing may cause them to possibly go down unevenly which sometimes causes problems. That may happen with the nite only up also. Hasn't happened to us because ours have always been so tight they're hard to close.

We also travel with ours in whatever position they were in when we closed the slides. BTW, Carol, we are "bottom feeders".

We have figured out the less you move them up and down, the less wear and tear. When we pull out, blinds are in whatever position they happen to be in.

I always travel with my rear window oes up and all the others down. The theory is that the recliners may move some during travel and chafe the blinds. That's what the dealer told me when I bought it. I never gave it additional thought. People that travel with them down could be right.

I have a local guy who fixes the Blinds in my home when the strings break and he also installs and repairs RV blinds. He told me to always leave the Blinds in the RV up when you don't need them down (for privacy or direct sun). The reason is that if you leave them down all the time the strings stretch to the down position and it weakens the strings with the constant tension and then over time will not want to stay up because the strings have stretched to the down position and are more apt to break.
I did have to remove my dining area blind in the RV, as the flying Red Wine stained it. I brought it home and had my Blinds guy clean it in his Ultrasonic cleaner, which removed the stain. However when I reinstalled it the strings had shrunk so I had to make new anchor holes at the bottom. After one trip the strings stretched again and I had to re-adjust so the blind would stay up. So I guess he was right.

5+ years with them down when traveling. No problem.
Since most of our travel is during warm to hot weather, I figure the trailer may stay a little cooler with them down. And since we typically leave out fairly early in the morning they are generally already down any way.

The shades in the slides usually stay up and the others are in the down position when travelling...as others have mentioned, in hot climates, the shades down seem to help keep the interior cooler while on the move.

we asked at the dealer they said keep down, keeps the sun out of the trailer and keeps it a little cooler.
but, my wife likes them up....
oh well, the discussion goes on.

8+ years of always traveling with the day/night shades in the down position, plus always left them down while the coach was stored -- never a single problem. My new roller shades say to leave in the up position for travel so that is what I do.

I leave them up or down depending on whether its hot or cold out. If hot - I leave them down to help keep the interior cool. Now that we are traveling about sunny "warm" Arizona - I've been leaving them up to try and warm up the interior a bit.
