Damaged Dinette table finish

We have a 2012 3750FL. We haven't used the dinette table for any sit down dinners. We usually just use tv trays and have dinner in the living room while watching tv. On our last camping trip we had some friends over for dinner and used the dinette table for the first time. I like having the table and it worked out great.
After dinner while removing the dinner plates from the table I noticed that the finish on the table was was damaged where the dinner plates were sitting. The heat from the food sitting on the plates turned the finish a milky white where each plate was sitting.

The finish is ruined. I never had this happen to a wooden dinette table before. Has anyone had this happen to their table? I know you're not supposed to put anything hot directly on the table. Shouldn't the table be able to withstand dinner plates with food on them?

It looks bad. I'm either going to have to have it repaired/refinished and most likely not match the pedestal and chairs or replace the table top.
I know I could just get a table cloth and cover it but I like the wood finish.

We have a 2013-3402rl and we have one of those marks. Will be interested if anyone has a fix-it for that.

Really easy to fix!!! Take a white towel and place on heat stain mark, use an iron turned up high and have STEAM ON. Gently iron over the white towel about 3 seconds and it will be gone. If a big stain area, you may have to repeat. Do not let iron stay in one place and STEAM must be on. Just did this to mine last week.

Doberman..Thank you very much for the info and link. You are a life saver. I just cancelled my order for a new table. My camper is in a storage unit so I will give it a try when I get a chance to get to it. I will post my results. This is why we belong to the MOC. Thanks all for the help.

I use place mats also but we only had 2 and there were 4 of us at the table. I didn't think the heat from the food would go through the plates and cause this. Definitely going to buy some good quality place mats for dinner and even a table pad to protect the finish from scratches when use it as extra counter space.

I had 3 white heat damaged areas on the table. Used the steam iron and a white hand towel and they disappeared. I couldn't beleve it. You can't tell they were even there. The table looks new again.... Thank You Doberman.

Yes I do ......The way my luck usually goes in situations like this is that it always seems to be a major solution to a simple problem .

I had already ordered a new table top from Trekwood RV parts while it was still available. They had told me that since manufacturers tweak & change interior furniture and layouts so often that certain replacements are usually only available for 2 years unless it was used in later model years. Mine is a 2012 but since the table was used in 2013 also it was still available so I jumped on it before I couldn't get it anymore.

I know some don't use it or like theirs. I really like this table. It swivels so you can rotate it and it also slides. It has a drawer to store silverware or what have you. My favorite part is that it has a built in hidden leaf on the end that adds about another 8"(+ -) to the table when needed. It makes a big differance. 4 adults can sit at this table and not be cramped. Once again MOC members come thru. Thanks

I just took mine out sanded it down and refinished it with salad bowl oil which is made for finishing wooden bowls and counter tops. Looks greatt should hold up as I did it on the butcher block in the SB.

Before finding out about the iron trick refinishing it was going to be my last resort if I wasn't able to buy one. I don't have any real experience in refinishing furniture. I have stained floor and crown moulding before but that's it. I know if I would have had to refinish the table top it wouldn't have matched the rest of the wood furniture and that would have bug the crap out of me every time I looked at it. So now that it is fixed I am going to go out and buy some very good heat resistant place mats....

I also used the steam iron method on my daughters dining room table. I couldn't believe how great it turned out! And she was thrilled that she didn't have to buy a new table!! I don't understand how or why it works, but it does!!!
