Install a progressive HW50C in a 3790RD

Hi All,

Just bought a 2016 Montana 3790RD would like to add the progressive HW50C ....where is the best place to install...I'm guessing it's in the main storage compartment behind the panels ...have not taken the panels off but I assume electrical is behind them
Really love this RV have had for 2 weeks and only issue we could find is toilet not holding water. Tried the olive oil trick kind of worked but i ordered a new seal only 13$ will install myself.
Went from a class A to 5th wheel it's been interesting change.
Any advice is appreciated

Thanks
Jeff

I bought the portable, but can see value to the hw version. Assume the hw has a remote panel so you can keep tabs on it when you want. In that case, where would be dictated by mounting location of the remote panel. The hw owners will chime in on this. On the toilet, you would be ahead of the game to replace it if it is still the tetford model. Plenty of history if you do a search...but flooding of units was one of its habits...dometic 310 or 320 would be good choice. John

On mine, I installed it behind the breaker/fuse panel which I accessed by removing the 1st panel on the left in the door side cargo bay.

The dealer installed mine behind the storage wall. Then installed the remote display in the storage area!!!
I ran the remote wiring up and installed it beside the wall panel switches so I can see it from the inside now. It is pretty easy to run a wire up the inside wall with all the other wires - just used a long pretty flexible wire.

Welcome Jeff.

We have the portable progressive as well here but have already changed out our toilet to a Dometic 310 model.
A new seal will get you going for awhile but it seems with the Tetford toilet it's a constant battle to even keep that seal sealing for very long. Another thing I would do is add an inline water shut off right away behind the toilet as it will come in handy in an emergency or when changing the toilet out.

You will find a great wealth of knowledge here.

Dealer installed our behind the electrical panel and the remote is up with the other switches...near the master bedroom slide switch.

Mine's behind the front storage wall as well. I mounted the remote readout over by the convienice center as I can leave the door open and see any issues right when I hook up to the power pedistal at the campsite.

Got the PT 50 C portable had it since 2006 many States, many campgrounds and it has not walked off yet. Never had a problem with the John on the 2006 or the 2013 Big Sky.

I mounted my Progressive HW unit behind the wall on the door side of the unit. The main wire from the rear plug had sufficient slack at that point to cut and make the connections. I routed the display wire up with all the many other wires and brought it out the same hole as the thermostat and mounted the display just above the thermostat.

I see no need to see the display when hooking up, the unit will do it's thing if there is a problem and will not allow power to the unit, I prefer to be able to monitor the current draw on each leg conveniently from within the unit.

As with richfaa, I have had no problems with my original toilet after 3 years but did put a shut off valve in the line that feeds it just in case.

The only time I have had the Progressive trip has been at home where at best I have 115V so trying to run the AC on a long 30 amp cord just does not supply enough voltage and at or near 109V it shuts the power off. Either hard wired or portable the investment is worth while.

2012 3400RL, I mounted the Progressive 50 behind the breaker panel. The DW complains she hears it humming or buzzing when we going to bed.
I just turn my hearing aids off. LOL
Call Progressive they suggested I mount it on rubber insulators. Anyone with a noisy surge protector?

Didn't realize they made noise. Where you mounted yours is the same location I'm going to use. Curious on responses.

I encounter some noise but it's not a problem. Certainly don't hear it in the bedroom. DW doesn't complain. Not an issue for us.
