Shower Drain

We have been on the road for 2 weeks in the new 2980 her maiden voyage. So far pretty much trouble free. However I did run into something today thats just plain stupid I think. Could someone tell me why you would use plumbers putty to seal around the shower drain. Common Keystone spend the extra 2.00 and use a rubber seal. I went to Home Depot and bought a seal and scraped off the putty and no more leakin shower drain after I installed the rubber seal. You new trailer owners might watch the shower drain. If you should step onto the top of the drain while showering it will probably start leaking Al
