Camping in North Georgia

We are looking for suggestions as to where to camp in north Georgia. We want to visit Helen GA the week between Christmas and New Years. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Jeff not sure how far north in Georgia you want to go but we have stayed at Cloud Land Canyon, It is a state park and is very nice we have stayed there a couple of times in the spring tims not sure what the wheather would be like at time of the year. It might get rather cold and snowy as to its high elavation. Roman

Hi Jeff Our son lives in Dacula We stop there on the way south in Dec in his yard, due to no campgrounds in area open. We spend march there and the only one open anywhere near is Stone Mountain. Some of the state parks might start to open in March but no sewer hook-ups. If you find anything open let us know. Thanx Dan

We have stayed several times at the Unicoi State Park (not in the RV, but in the lodge). That was before we had the RV. It is a beautiful park. It is very near Helen, GA. Here is the web address:

Thanks for the replies. We have decided to stay at Stone Mt. It's been a long time since we were last there. The have an event called the Southern Christmas that runs through the end of Dec. That and being so close to Helen Ga convinced us it would be a good place to stay.

Jeff,
I see that we are neighbors. We have also stayed at Unicoi the past 3 years between Christmas and New Years. Unicoi is a nice state park and they actually have full hook-up on one loop. If you try and stay during that period you need to make reservations well in advance if you want full hook-up. If full hook-up is not important you won't need reservations that far out. Unicoi is only a few miles from Helen and the kids really enjoy. We meet my entire family up there camping. We don't really push it so it'll be about a 13 hour drive from where we live. Good luck and enjoy.

Steve
