New microwave

My wife wants to replace the convection microwave in our 2013 3402RL ... Let me rephrase that ... "Needs to replace" the microwave. We have power to it but it's never worked properly and now the keypad is malfunctioning to the point she can't even set the clock. Bottom line ... It's gotta go. The dealer wants $800 for a new one but we think we can do better. Any ideas or suggestions? Will any microwave work provided it fits in the space provided? Also, the one being replaced is a Frigidaire and my wife doesn't like that make. I know Christmas is upon us and you all have many things to tend to but any help will be appreciated.

I replaced several microwaves in RV's over the years. I even made mods to make fit. As long ax you have room, most will work. It is easier if replacement is same size or smaller. Good luck

We have the same Frigidaire in our 3402RL and it was replaced twice on warranty. Most recently the fan and control board were replaced to solve the problem of single speed on the fan. It was the control board but I have a new fan and the old control board in my shop. Yours should be under warranty as well.

The microwave mounts on a hanger on the back wall and is held up with 2 or 3 bolts through the cupboard. You will need to measure the
W, H, and D of the current one in order to shop for another. It must exhaust out the back and not the top as well.

Good luck and let us know what your decision is.

In my rig, if I had to replace my unit, I would just use a microwave with the same dimensions or better yet. Measure the cabinet and ensure the replacement fits along with any space requirements needed. Reusing the fascia would be the only concern. Otherwise some way to keep the new unit from falling out would be needed.

In my rig, there is a 20 amp duplex outlet in the cabinet that it would plug into. Just a few phillips screws to remove the fascia, then slide it out carefully. (I needed a small step ladder to do this, you might, too). Since we've never used the convection oven (we are still regular oven users) the replacement would just need to have just the microwave function (makes for a much cheaper unit). If you need the convection, then do expect to pay a higher price. Just don't get one with the "RV" designation since that seems to raise the price of anything.

I believe the microwave is a standard size. Back wall mount plate ans then 2 screws from the top.

I hate our GM microwave. When it dies, going to put in a GE or Samsung. You can buy one for about $300 or less @ Lowes.

So apparently there Are no "special" considerations for RV use? As long as it fits its good to go?!

Our 2013 came with a Sharp microwave. During the PDI we found the spinning plate missing. We went around to every Montana on the lot looking for a microwave to "harvest" the plate from but not one had a Sharp. The dealer had to have Keystone send a new one out.

Firstrmc, nope, nothing special except maybe a very slight chance that an "RV" model might be just a bit lighter, but I don't think it's enough to even consider even with a small trailer. Just go for fit and maybe a good price and you should be okay unless you want yours diamond-encrusted - DW would probably love you for this one, but she just might want the diamonds on something more practical.

I found a convection/microwave on Camping World's website toniight that is only $300 on sale. It's a Dometic. Is anyone familiar with that brand? I am not crazy about the Frigidaire.

You probably have some dometic stuff on your Monty. If it isn't the frig then it's probably the awning. In our case it's both of those plus our microwave/convection oven.

Our Micro/convec is a Dometic, too. I am taking it in next week, perhaps for the same problem as you. On the key pad, the numbers 2 and 5 are inoperable, and the 5 speed fan only runs one speed. I called Dometic, and they said either the electronics or the whole thing needs to be replaced. Seems like the control board would be the easiest fix, but who knows? Anyone out there who can comment on this repair vs replace? We have an extended warranty with a $200 deductible if replacement is the way to go.

I'd go to Lowes or Home Depot and try to find a convection/microwave that will fit in the hole...light weight would be nice. It's plugged into a standard AC socket. I'd not get another "F" word appliance.

Dang I'm lucky, the Micro/conv works great, the only problem I have is the "star" the fits into the plate to make it spin is broke. Previous owner tried to use JB Weld to fix it and and botched the job.... But most times we only use the micro part to defrost meat or heat up leftovers so we are good with it. That's the reason we travel with our bread or potato chips etc in the micro to keep the plate from bouncing on the road....

After three years of full-timing, our Dometic convection microwave croaked about a month ago. Replaced it with another of the exact same model. Ordered it from Camping World.

http://www.campingworld.com/shopping....wchagMoj.dpbs

Didn't have any resizing or fit issues, since it was the same model. Did take DH and another person to install it, as it is rather heavy and awkward.

I was thrilled to get my microwave back! We use the convection mode quite often. No complaints here.

I usually don't get stuff from CW, but they had the same model and a decent price. No issues with shipping, etc.
