Verizon promotions (Air Card)

I was just on the phone with Verizon changing my plan around to suit our new lifestyle and I asked if there was a promotion for extending the air card contract for another year (if you don't ask, you don't get). After a brief second, the operator told me that they would waive one month's service fee for extending. What a deal! And, I can get another card if I want.

Was that an offer at the end of your original two year contract?

Nope - 1 year. And the extension is 1 year.

Sailer, you might consider the 3-watt booster, too. We found when the signal is very weak, that booster makes it very usable. I feel it was a very worthwhile addition for us. I have only the "external" antenna that is on a short cord of about six feet. But that goes into the booster which then cables to the aircard.

This booster requires 110v so you either use it indoors or use an inverter in the truck/car.

If you have a verizon aircard try this speed test to see what your actual speed is.Find out what you are supposed to be getting then check your actual speed...it may well be a eye opener.. Thew speed test will work with any card or DSL line. The down load and up load speed is sort of like regen on the new diesels..If you do not have a EGt and are not looking at it you will not know if you are in regeneration.. With the Verizon 650 air card you should get between 400 and 700 KBPS download speeds. less than 200 and you have serious trouble.

OOPPS..here is the speed test http://infospeed.verizon.net/

Alright I may not be too smart, but what is an aircard, what does it cost, and why do I need it. I do have verizon cell phone with 800 minutes, thats it. I am thinking maybe I need this to hook up to my laptop for internet service. I have never used internet except for at home so I guess I would be concidered new. Any and all infor would be wonderful. Thank You Chuck

We started to use the Verizon air card to hook up to the internet while on the road. We now use it exclusively for our internet connection, both on the road and in our stick home. The card plugs into the side of the laptop and costs us $59.00/month. We have been able to get on the internet with it most places that we have been. Some places give us better service than others but we usually get a signal.

Thats what I thought it was but was not sure, Thanks for the info. Right now we are doing the weekend thing with a week or two vacation here and there, so I think I will wait until I retire and begin to travel to invest in one. Seems like i need to save to buy Diesel Fuel right now, so maybe when I retire I won't be able to afford an air card LOL.

I just checked my speed at the Verizon site and I got 2245.9 Kb, 920.8 Kb, 2348.8 Kb and 1347.3 Kb. Those look like pretty good numbers, but I think that is my wireless connection to Verizon. My numbers are lower, if I go through DLSReports.com - i.e. through Miami.

Ozz, I got my aircard last August through the 3G Store. The aircard was $50 with a $50 rebate. Monthly charges were $59.99 per month. Sounds like you had the earlier plan that cost $69.99 per month without a Verizon cell phone. They don't require a Verizon cell phone now to get the $59.99 plan. I'd call Verizon and get it lowered.
