I just replaced mine this fall with two 24 series deep cycle marine (Interstate) batteries. We rarely boondock but since it was already set up for two batteries I stayed with that.

Don't know the brands, but my dream battery setup is dual 6v AGM maintenance-free with proper recharge system on the converter. (I already use a Battery Minder while stored at home to keep my prior Interstates and current Duralast/Autozone cheapie battery 12v deep cycles charged and conditioned). It's gonna be pricey but well capable and hopefully long lasting. No battery issues so far, they last about 5-6 years but I'm hoping to increase the time to worry.

The best group 27 Interstate battery sells, has 160 amp hours X 2=320 AH. They also sell a large battery that has 360 AH. This battery is about the same height as a standard battery and about as wide as a standard battery is long and about 21 inches long. The group 27s cost a little over $100 the large battery goes for $160. More power less money better value. The only draw back it IS heavy. You may need 2 people to install it.

The question was asked in this thread if it matters what converter you have in your monty when thinking of new batteries. The answer is yes. Make sure that what you have can support the battery technology that you think you want to put into the rig when changing out old battery/batteries. Otherwise, the price you pay is replacing the one you just killed. And, to refresh minds or inform those you may not know it...if you have batteries that are ganged together to gain amp-hours...replace all at the same time or risk having the lesser functioning battery drag down the new one... Yup, learned the hard way that my current charger doesn't support AGM batteries.

When I had my 30' TT I immediately replaced the 12v house battery with two 6v Trojan's since I boon docked a lot. Added a Battery minder and they always performed great. My Honda 3000 kept them charged and days would go by without having to re-charge, the Honda was for running the A/C mainly.

Got tired of replacing batteries every 4-5 years so replaced my dumb converter with a smart converter from Progressive Ind. With four stage charging and a smart wizard.

Two 6 volt Trojan deep cycle batteries is what I put in after only getting a single 27 series from the dealership. I was going to go with the AGM's but was worried about the charging requirements. After getting a return call from our converter/charger manufacturer I was happy to hear that the model of charger that was installed in our unit would work great with AGM's. In the end it was availability and price that swayed my decision on sticking with the lead acid cores. So far I have never had to add water to the batteries, some of that might be do to the smarter chargers that are available now compared to my older units chargers.

Hi
I purchased one of these last month and mounted the LED indicator where I can see it thru the vents under the steps. I had forgotten replacing the battery with an AGM a year or so ago. After 2 24 hour days the LED is flashing so slow that you wonder if it is working LOL. They offer an exchange repair service in the event you need repairs and are family owned in the USA. So far I am happy with it.

Our unit is almost 8 years old and we just this summer put the third battery in it. Averaging just under 4 years per battery. Anything above that is probably overkill on needs and wallet. Jim

You're always going to be doing something 'off-grid', even if only for a short time - UNLESS you're just going to stay parked somewhere hooked up. I've never been satisfied with only one battery, even with a 20' TT. With slides and hooking/un-hooking, you're better off with two and they aren't that expensive even with a second battery case.

Mel B, a good source of that kind of info can be found at an RV shop that specializes in solar equipment. Stay away from Camping World!!!! There was a thread about this a couple of weeks ago. I had recommended AM Solar from Oregon as a source. There are many good ones, just do the homework.
