Yes, some nylon but it seems most of the supporting framework is steel.
My mod is totally steel.

Jim B,
We did ours the way you did and it was about 1 1/2 years ago, with no problem. Like you said it wears out the threads.

JimD - How do you take the pivot door off? I would appreciate it if you could describe the procedure step by step just so I can be prepared when my day comes.
In your pic of the new hardware, the bright brass piece goes on top of the door, and it looks like it has a catch to lock or unlock. Seems like that would make door removal or installation easier...good idea. I assume the dark piece is a metal shim that fits on top of the door under the bright brass hanger -right? Is there also an arm on the top and bottom of the door? I have never looked at mine to see how those attach.

Nice mod! Ours stood up to 2 1/2 years of fulltime use and still works good as new. Who knows?

Hi,
I had no problems getting to all the hardware for that door by pulling off all door trim. I had about 1/2 inch access to the internal area of the hardware. Just take your time. you will get it.

So I decided to set it up different.
I drilled out the roller to 5/16, and got a 5/16-18 round head machine screw. Slid the screw through the roller facing down and locked it into the bracket on top of the door with two lock nuts
At the same time I had heard somewhere on this forum or another one that MorRyde who make the hardware has and updated version. I had reached out to them via email and heard back from Jennifer there and yes there is in fact a newer version of the roller. She sent one out to me free of charge and it arrived today.
Similar design to my mod except where mine rotates freely in the roller, theirs rotates freely in the bracket. I think both designs are a major improvement to the original and I am confident I will be able to use our pivot door for some time to come.
I will keep my mod in place for now and if it fails I will then install the MorRyde part.
Hats off to MorRyde.

Do you have the email or phone # for Jennifer?

You know that looks a lot like a smaller and lighter duty version of a Unistrut trolley. I am using Unistrut and 4 trollies to make a bed lift in our cargo trailer. The Unistrut is industrial strong and often used for heavy duty applications. I bet you could make a really stout setup out of that. It would certainly work if you wanted to build a barn door setup!

Anyone know how to put on regular hinges? Pivot door won't open enough when changing out toilet to Dometic 320 (hits on toilet) or barn door slide (is there somewhere solid to mount track?)

This couple made their pivot into a barn door. https://youtu.be/T8JL8DIEyIk I hope the link goes through. If not, their channel is Finding Freedom and this video is "we bought an rv"

My work partner changed her pivot door out on her 3790 by using non mortised hinges. She put a piece of wood behind the hinges to fill the gap, put on the hinges and loved it. Jerry and Laura Thorsell did the same mod after seeing hers. Very easy and inexpensive to do.

Update
Well, it's been a year now since I made the change to the door pivot roller so I thought it was time for an update.
The door is still functioning properly and I have not had to make any adjustments or fixes. It has been in full time use for the last 6 months.
I do like the barn door mods that have been done but that wasn't a very good option for us. The linen cabinet in the bathroom blocked the space I would need and on the outside there was the power center cabinet and a coat closet in the way so it was either make the door work right or go with regular hinges.
We're happy with what we have now.

We have decided to go the hinge route as well as we like the way the door opens and closes more smoothly, not a fight everything we want to get in there.
I do have a couple of questions if you don't mind: How do you take the pivot door off the bottom arm, does it just pull off once you have taken all the top parts off, or do you take the trim work off and remove everything at once? Could someone who has done the hinge method post pictures, I'm such a visual person and it would help me tremendously. Many thanks in advance.

Pivot roller for bathroom door
Hi all,
I’m new to post to the MOC, glad to be a member. I’ve also had problems with our bathroom door. I checked the roller and sure enough the threads were totally stripped out. I replaced the original bolt with a 1/4-20x2” carriage bolt with the head on top of the roller. Once I had the nuts and washers in place on the stationary plate, the door just glided open and closed like it was supposed to. Sweet!!
I really liked the door, but I, too, was ready to do the hinge or barn door replacement.
Thanks for all the input. I’d rate the job as fairly easy (once I figured out how it was supposed to work). The only tool I used was a 4” crescent wrench.

That's basically what I did only I used a 5/16 carriage bolt and drilled out what was left of the threads in the roller.
It's been a year now and ours is still working very smoothly.
Knock on wood.

I liked your idea and figured a 1/4” bolt would be strong enough to hold the door. We’ll see how it holds up by the end of the summer after our trip to the east coast from Seattle I’ll let you know.

1/4 should be plenty strong enough.
Have a good trip.
