You've Got To Be Kidding!!!
After two OEM toilets, half a dozen water valves, and having our basement/bedroom flooded several times , we finally replaced the OEM toilet with a Dometic 310 . For the first time in years we are able to leave the campsite without shutting off the main water valve and get a good nights sleep without wondering when the water alarm will sound. The valve on the Dometic 310 is very positive in its closure and the toilet gives a very clean flush without frequent bowl cleanings. I can't say enough about how happy we are with the replacement. I just wish we had known about this chronic issue with the original toilet before replacing it with the same model. What a waste of effort and time to end up with the same old issues. Got the good advice on the Dometic 310 off this website. Thanks guys.

He/she who doesn't switch will find out that they have a nifty source for an indoor pool. John

Something too consider. We have a Dometic "Sealand" model 210 and I just completed replacing the rubber seal at the bottom of the toilet since it wore out and no longer held water. According to the first place I called, the seller mentioned, "yup, you gotta replace it very 3 or so years". I've had my trailer for 9 years with rare use, then went to fulltiming in it and the seal wore out within 7 months of almost daily use. How can anyone say 3 or so years, since it would surely depend on frequency of use.
In retrospect, the replacement kit was only about $22 from Amazon (including shipping) and since I did the labor (about 2 hours, which including on a thorough cleaning of everything) and it's all working now, however, using a toilet that has a part that will wear out in this manner, to me is not a good design. Because the flush operation slides a plastic valve against a rubber seal, this will cause things to wear.
I suggest you look for a toilet, that uses a different mechanism for flushing if there is one. For example, a flap style that opens and drops the effluent rather than slide valves that open causing eventual wear.
That's just my 2 cents, and I hope there are better designed RV gravity toilets. I wonder how long this seal will last with full-time use, especially when my daughter-in-law and grandkiddies visit every so often? Maybe we'll suggest the local restrooms at the RV Parks, but I'm guessing I'll get voted down and I'll be doing this repair every year or two. I did NOT buy a spare repair kit, since I don't know how soon I would need it and I didn't want to carry it in the rig for that long.

I've had my 3485 SA 07 Monty for 7 1/2 years and have a Sealand just replace it twice now. Once at about 4 yrs and just a couple of months ago. It works great and have never had any other problems. I did have a valve problem just a couple of yrs old the spring in the ball value stretched and was covered in warrantee.

In our 2006 Monty that we have used 3-4 months every year for 8 years, I replaced our SeaLand seal this summer. This was the first time to replace the seal and using Plumbers Silicone Sealant to lub the plastic ball and rubber seal--all is great! Ready for another 8 years!
